Hello? I'm back (again)! Didn't anyone miss me??
Anyway...
The JOB HUNT goes on, and I'm noticing some alarming patterns. The first of which is that 80% of the applications are online, and when I go into a business to inquire about an application, many of them just give me a card with a URL on it. I guess that's OK--means I can "job hunt" at home, in my jammies, and fill out apps while catching up on season 5 of House. But I wonder...who is actually reading my application? Anyone? Or am I just sending my personal work history information out into the void? What happened to personal representation, and making sure your handwriting was neat, and your clothing presentable and putting forth a good impression?
Secondly, does anyone know whats going on? I've always been taught that within a week of submitting your application/resume it is a good idea to call the business to follow up or see if you can set up an actual face-to-face interview. After all, they are recieving your application electronically, you would think they would want to *eventually* meet a potential employee. So far, I have had ONE person tell me to stop by "Thursday morning sometime" for a "short discussion" about the job. The other 5-6 places I followed up with seemed to have NO IDEA what was going on. "Um...the applications are online...soooooo....um yeah. I think they'll call you?" Or "Um, I think ______ is in charge of that, buuuuutttt....I don't know how to get in touch with them....ummmmm...call back on Friday?"
I was hoping to be done with Taco John's for good, but...the prospects are not looking promising.
