The Adventures of Medical Internship: Special Halloween Edition

THE HAUNTED ICU

For two weeks, I was the lone night float intern in the ICU. We had some crazy cases, as you can imagine, but what I want to write about are the stories the staff told me about how our ICU is haunted. Yes, you read that right-haunted!

our hospital used to be a physical rehab facility so i'm not sure why it's haunted.

the first story happened in the kennel area. i was chatting with one of the kennel guys and a receptionist, and was remarking that my dog was insanely stupid. (as backstory, my dog was brought to my hospital almost dead. we saved him, and now he comes to work with me every day. everybody loves him.) i turned to leave, and this loud crash made me turn around. a laundry basket that had been sitting on top of the dryer, which was off, had been flung across the walkway into a bunch of brooms. nothing else was on in the back at that time.

the second one happened just this week. i was coming upstairs and cut through one of our exam rooms to get to the doctor area. as i walked through the room, i heard a male voice say, "dr t..." (my name). i thought it was a client or kennel guy, so i looked around the room, the hallway, and up front. there was nobody around anywhere, and everyone denied saying my name.

and lastly, the lead tech had an experience that was witnessed by three other techs. they were working at the dental table. there were shelves on the wall across the dental table that had bandaging kits, ear cleaning kits, etc. the baskets are NOT light. as she was working on a patient, she saw the bandaging kit fly off the shelf and GLIDE to a stop by the head of the dental table. normally, if these kits are bumped or not pushed back far enough on the shelf, they'll just tump right over directly below the shelf, not glide to a stop 6-7 feet away.

other technicians and kennel guys who have to work by themselves on sundays will not go downstairs. they say that when they're down there alone, it sounds like there's a lobby full of people walking around and talking upstairs. creepy.

Whoa, these are awesome! Loved them! Do people pass away at the rehab facility often at all? So interesting!
