I am so frustrated with some of the people going on the NYC trip I've been planning for my aunt's drama club. Nine of them have changed to the early morning flight on Sunday so that they can attend graduation parties back home.
Let me explain exactly what happens in our little town around graduation time. For at least a month after graduation, virtually the same party is given by a graduate's family. There is the same kind of food: gumbo (even thought it's hot as hell), jambalaya, boiled seafood, fried and/or BBQ chicken, and the other regular fixins (potato salad, desserts, etc.). The same music and the same gossip can be expected. There's usually about four - five parties on any given day, and people just migrate from one to the other. And this happens EVERY FREAKING YEAR!
This year, they are going to be in NYC for just one of the weekends. Any normal, sensible person would pick NYC over a graduation party any day of the week. And, it's not like it's the party of a relative for any of them. They're just going home because they don't want to miss the party.
I chose the late flight because I wanted to given them a day where they could just explore the city. It's virtually a "free" day. I've lost count of how many times I've been to NYC, and I still haven't seen all there is to see, so I know they won't be able to get in everything. Yet, nine of them are leaving early. Actually giving up a day in New York!
That just blows my freaking mind.
So, now, I'm on a mission to make them regret the hell out of their decision to leave early. I need to come up with something super spectacular for the group to do on Sunday that will make the ones going home early green with envy. I soooooo wish I knew someone in the record industry. They want to go to either the MTV or BET Studios so bad. It would devastate the group going home early if the others were actually able to get in.
Anyone have ideas? NYC girls, any suggestions?
