So...

I'm taking a poetry class and we were assigned a 20 line blank verse poem. This was my second attempt. See if you can figure out where I got my inspiration. hehe.

His head was hung in shame from guilt and despair.

How could he go and face his father now?

His schooling terminated. Finished. Done.

What could be next? Not marriage, flight, or strife.

He even thought to end it all by night.

The plan was plain. His life would close for good.

His death was near as time appeared to halt,

Until footsteps startled, flustered, and stopped.

The sight was stark: A girl in clothing bare

With flowers blue-- a ghost from childhood past.

There she was scared, but eyes alight with hope;

Her innocence intact until she saw the gun.

Her weeping brought him back from edges dark.

She fled before he could explain it all.

He stood alone as she was running off,

Away from him and leaving thoughts behind.

He paused, reflecting between here and there

And had to rest until his mind was clear.

His will was changed. His planning failed him now.

Despite his fears, he followed. Homeward bound.
