The Traffic Light after Nowhere.

"I just don't wanna be here, Andrew." She said, staring out the window with a pained expression.

"Why?"

She dug her shoulder further into the wall and pivoted around on it, just enough so he could see half of her face. She shook her head and shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know."

"Well that's a great reason to do something, because you don't know."

"No it's not but it's better than doing nothing."

"I guess so." He bit the inside of his cheek and stared out the other window at yellow puddles then red from the changing traffic light. He became entranced by it like a beacon of some sort.

She sighed, staring at the same rain-filled potholes with somber brown eyes. "It's really not. I'm just so frustrated. With everything. My life here and my job and school and him. Five years ago this isn't where I wanted my life to be, at all. Just somewhere I got lost in the problems outside of me and, well the ones inside of me as well."

"You're letting a bad relationship drive you away?"

Examining the road for a minute, she broke her chained glance as a grey car skirted through the changing yellow light. "No, that's not why I'm doing it. I'm not letting it drive me away. I'm letting it and everything else go. I'm just so tired."

"Then take a nap, don't uproot your entire life."

She chuckled and stared back out of the window. "You know why I love this view so much?"

"Not yet."

"Because I come into this apartment and I lock the door and I stay in the for the night. I come in here and I go nowhere. But I look out this window and I see all these other people, passing through that light, and they're going somewhere. Maybe some of those somewheres eventually turn into nowheres but at least there is a trip involved. If I'm going to settle down to nothing I might as well make it a destination and see a few things on my way."

"If that's what you want."

Turning to him, she took the strap of one of the bags he was holding onto, pulling him to the door. Shutting it behind him, he let go and followed her down a damp hallway with a crumbling ceiling. He stopped. "You sure?"

"Yeah, I am. And hey, if I'm not, I always know my way home, right?" She smiled and kissed his cheek. And with that and so many of the steps they took down three flights of stairs, he became the one that was left behind.
