Points of Comparison - Oneshot

Feb 12, 2009 10:27

Summary: Drabblish. Though based on the same protoform-skeleton, Steeljaw and Ravage are entirely different cassettes.

Author note: Set before the events of “Becoming” (Movieverse fic), but is meant to be read as a standalone, so it can fit in G1 as well. Let’s see if paying attention to this ficthing will get the Becoming muse to stop ignoring me…

Characters: Steeljaw, Ravage

Points of Comparison

War

To Steeljaw, war is terrible. She has lost so many friends to war, so many sparks snuffed out before their time. She has seen friends die without dying as the war and carnage consumed them, and where there was once kindness is now only suspicion, where there was once trust is now only fear. War is the poison that seeps into the processor and blackens the spark. War makes heroes into tyrants and healers into killers, and you can only hope that you’re doing the right thing so that you don’t lose any more than you already have.

To Steeljaw, war is worthless.

To Ravage, war is wonderful. She supposes that there will come a day where she will want this war to end, but for now she will glory in the rush that fighting brings. She has seen comrades become strong, their resolve hardened. She has seen glory and carnage. War sparks life into the processor and quickens the energon pumping in one’s wires. War has made them strong, turned cowards into soldiers and weaklings into warriors. War is the fire that tempers the blade, and she and those she loves will be the most deadly ever forged.

To Ravage, war is priceless.

Happiness

To Steeljaw, happiness is a good romp in the park, hiding from Blaster in the tall grasses and then resting in the sunshine in front of a great oak while a little butterfly stops its coming-and-going to land gently on her nose. Happiness is the whirring of gears of her Autobots’ internal workings and the steady flow of air in and out her humans’ lungs. Happiness is the tiny pitter-patter of rain cleansing the earth, the bawdy, good-natured laughter of mechs on too much high-grade, the laughter of children and the tiny clink of energon glasses raised in a triumphant toast.

To Steeljaw, happiness is the sights and sounds and smells of everything beautiful.

To Ravage, happiness is a good hunt, silently making her way across rubble and dirt, resting in the shadows of an abandoned city, smiling to herself as her pursuers vainly tried to find her. Happiness is the silence of the shadows, the soft glow in her enemies’ dying optics and the sharp screams of her victims as her claws tore through them. Happiness is the pitter-patter of her enemies’ retreat, the bawdy, good-natured brawls of mechs high on high-grade, the whispers of secrets revealed and the tiny clink of energon glasses raised in a triumphant toast.

To Ravage, happiness is the sights and sounds and smells of victory.

Siblings

To Steeljaw, Eject is too obsessed, Rewind is too talkative, and Ramhorn is too short-tempered. Sometimes she finds herself wishing that Blaster had only created her, but she regrets thinking that almost immediately. The world would be cold and lonely without them. She’s glad that they’re there with her-she couldn’t imagine life without them.

To Steeljaw, her siblings are those that she must protect, even though they’re now old enough to protect themselves, because she’s their older co-creation, and that’s what she’s supposed to do.

To Ravage, Frenzy is too spastic, Rumble is too careless, Lazerbeak is too full of himself and Ratbat is too glitchy. She sometimes thinks that Soundwave should have just created one protoform-her. They’ve grown on her, though, like rust spots, and though she would probably be better off as an only creation, she couldn’t imagine life without them.

To Ravage, her siblings are the annoying little things that she has to tolerate and to take care of because she’s their older co-creation, and no one except her and Soundwave are strong enough to.

Family

To Steeljaw, Blaster, Rewind, Eject, and Ramhorn are her family, they are her pride, her raison d’être. Blaster is the sun in her world and her siblings are the stars in her skies. Happiness, Steeljaw knows, is to curl up with her family at night after an exhausting day of sights and sounds and smells, with Ramhorn on her right side and Rewind and Eject on her left, while Blaster crooned to them a gentle lullaby.

To Steeljaw, her family is her everything.

To Ravage, Soundwave, Frenzy, Rumble, Lazerbeak, and Ratbat are her family, they are her pack-mates, her raison d’être. Soundwave is the night in her world and her siblings are the shadows in her skies. Happiness, Ravage knows, is to slip through the shadows and the dark to curl up with her family, with the twins on one side of her and the fliers on the other side, while Soundwave crooned to them a gentle lullaby.

To Ravage, her family is her everything.
