I'm back at college again - worst luck - and I was just scrabbling around for something to post about when I realised I haven't yet talked about music. Shock horror! Music is a huge part of my life; I understand that what I'm currently listening to - that'd be Neunundneunzig Luftbalons by Nena - doesn't say much for my musical taste, but that's just because I'm into a relatively mad variety. You can scroll through my iPod and find some very amusing combinations brought together by the alphabet - Donna Summer (sixties, I think; she sang Hot Stuff) to Dragonforce to Drew Sarich, who did an excellent version of Heaven on Their Minds from Jesus Christ Superstar, for example. I have music from a nice range of different languages on there, though I'd still like to branch out a bit; I've got English, French, Italian, Japanese and quite a good amount of German, mainly because I'm doing German as a qualification and it's useful to listen to their language as a hobby as well as for my work.
I'm currently listening to another German band called Wir Sind Helden - which means We Are Heroes, if you're interested - and they're pretty good. My favourite bands, however, sing in English; The Killers, Muse, Linkin Park... they're possibly my three favourites, but as I said before I have such a diverse taste that's really not represented by that top three. I'm getting quite into pretty-sounding classical music recently - Hayley Westenra is excellent, and I downloaded Eliza's Aria by Elena Kats-Chernin, which is on the Lloyds TSB advert; if you're English you'll know it. The one where the people have the long noses on the train. It's a very beautiful song, actually... it makes me think of elves.
An album I really enjoyed recently was Hate Culture by William Control; that's Wil Francis from Aiden's alter ego. I knew it was going to be good when he used the intro from The Libertine - which stars Johnny Depp and is a very good film - and then when I heard Beautiful Loser and Tranquilize I knew I was sold. Actually, Demetrius has adopted Tranquilize as his own personal theme tune, and I think it's quite befitting; the sound of it as well as the lyrics. However, it wouldn't matter if I didn't like it, because I have no control over him and he'd have chosen it anyway. His other personal theme tunes, if you're interested, are Personal Jesus by Marilyn Manson, Before I Forget by Slipknot and Barbie Girl by Aqua.
I also quite like writing joke lyrics to songs that already exist; Gay Bar is a relatively frequent target, but whatever takes my fancy gets a makeover. I'm not musically talented in the slightest and I don't pretend to be, but me, big Morv and big Jordan do often amuse ourselves by creating songs about Carol and Pobedonostsev to the tune of Spiderpig. I think big Jord is actually blogging with some sample lyrics as we speak; I could be wrong but I don't think I am as he's sitting right next to me with some he wrote during History about two hours ago. It's a work of genius, if you ask me; especially the cherry-popping line, which comes directly from my own sick and corrupted brain. It's writing Oscar; it's turned my noggin into a sewer, I swear to God. Alright, that's a lie - it was dirty before that. Oscar does make it worse, though, definitely.
I didn't post yesterday, and that was very bad of me. Sorry. I did have this one half-written during lunchtime but I ran out of time in which to finish posting it; I didn't realise that LJ would save it for me overnight! Good show, Livejournal. I applaud the effort. Anyway, I'm going to go now and try not to be too grouchy without chocolate, crisps and after-college snacks... bloody lent.
