01.
My Shadow - Keane
Dean, Castiel | Gen or slash | POV: Castiel | The Dean-Castiel song for me. Nice build on this one.
It’s time to make a start
To get to know your heart
Time to show your face
Time to take your place
02.
Angels on the Moon - Thriving Ivory
Dean | Gen | POV: Dean | If it all ends in death for them, maybe Dean wouldn’t want to know in advance.
Don’t tell me if I’m dying
’Cause I don’t wanna know
If I can’t see the sun, maybe I should go
Don’t wake me ’cause I’m dreaming
Of angels on the moon
Where everyone you know never leaves too soon
03.
The Resolution - Jack’s Mannequin
Dean, Castiel | Gen | POV: Dean | Dean dealing with life after hell.
There’s a lot that I don’t know
There’s a lot that I’m still learning
When I think I’m letting go
I find my body, it’s still burning
04.
White Feathers, Strange Lights - Whitley
Dean/Castiel | Slash | POV: Dean | Castiel loses his grace for Dean. The atmosphere on this song just seems to work.
There are stranger ways to fall from grace
And harder ways to see your face
05.
Hallelujah - Jason Castro
Dean/Castiel | Slash | POV: Dean | I don't think the full version of this song would have fit, but Jason’s short version is perfect.
Love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and it’s a broken hallelujah
06.
I Am Still Running - Jon Foreman
Dean, Sam | Gen or Slash | POV: Dean or Sam | The Dean-and-Sammy-need-each-other-forever-and-ever song.
I had no idea the pain would be this strong
I had no idea the fight would last this long
In my darkest fears, the rights become the wrongs
I am still running
Build me a home inside your scars
Build me a home inside your song
Build me a home inside your open arms
The only place I ever will belong
07.
Penny on the Train Track - Ben Kweller
Dean | Gen | POV: Dean | Written for Dean Winchester. I swear.
Stopping in somebody’s old hometown
Gotta get that midnight meal
If you can’t get behind your own life
Get behind the driving wheel
And go, just go
Find a place that you don’t know
08.
Heaven Forbid - The Fray
Dean, Sam | Gen | POV: Sam
How much longer?
How long can you wait?
It’s like you wanted to go and give yourself away
Heaven forbid you end up alone
And you don’t know why
Hold on tight
Wait for tomorrow
You’ll be all right
09.
Work - Jars of Clay
Dean, Sam | Gen | POV: Dean | This one is season 4 Winchesters more than any other song on this mix.
On the brink of this destruction
On the eve of bittersweet
Now all the demons look like prophets
And I’m living out every word they speak
Do you know what I mean when I say, “I don’t want to be alone”?
10.
You’re All I Have - Snow Patrol
Dean, Sam | Gen or Slash | POV: Dean | Probably more slash than gen.
Under your skin feels like home
Electric shocks on aching bones
Give me a chance to hold on
Just give me something to hold on to
It’s so clear now that you are all that I have
11.
All Is Whole - Whitley
Dean, Castiel | Gen | POV: Castiel | Dean saw hell and made it out. He’s alive, this is a second chance, and now Castiel wants him to find faith.
No one ever hears your screams
And water pouring through the seams
You walk along and feel nighttime’s cracks
Your memories are fading
You can’t keep calling
You can’t keep from falling
And you can’t save your soul
If you can’t believe all is whole
In the end
You’re carried off and wounds will mend
To save your soul, to save yourself
12.
Flood - Jars of Clay
Dean, Castiel | Gen | POV: Dean | An analogy for Dean in hell, or it could be seen as Dean struggling more than ever after hell. Either way, he needs his Castiel.
Downpour on my soul
Splashing in the ocean
I’m losing control
Dark sky all around
Can’t feel my feet touching the ground
13.
On Fire - Switchfoot
Dean, Castiel | Gen | POV: Dean | Sounds like slash at first but it’s really, really not about that at all. This is originally a “Jesus song.” But it fits a search/struggle I feel even Dean would take after being dragged out of hell by an angel. Surely he might look for something more out there, and he might look to Castiel as a starting point to finding it.
When everything inside me looks like everything I hate
You are the hope I have for change
You are the only chance I’ll take
I’m standing on the edge of me
I’m standing on the edge of everything I’ve never been before
And I’ve been standing on the edge of me
I’m standing on the edge
And I’m on fire when you’re near me
I’m on fire when you speak
I’m on fire burning at these mysteries
