Summer Writing Plans

May 06, 2014 14:20

Hello friends! Now that May is here (although still chilly and snowy in many parts of the world), I am thinking about my summer writing project(s). I have quite a few things going and I am wondering what YOU are all working on? TELL ME EVERYTHING! <3

I got really frustrated recently at how I never seem to finish anything, so I made a spreadsheet (always the cure for what ails me) and after putting it all down on "paper" found I have forty ongoing stories I'm working on. That's not counting whatever I write for kink or epics. Forty. No wonder I feel like I never finish anything. Granted, some of those are completed stories that I have notes or the beginning of a followup/sequel, but still, they're things for which I have a document started. :/

I did finish one, an epics prompt from a year ago, and got that posted yesterday. Now I can go mark something off that spreadsheet. Yay!

I've narrowed it down to six things I want to work on steadily, and four things I want to finish and post, so I can be done with them. Time frame? IDK. I need a deadline. I work better that way.

I am always willing to beta - short notice, anything up to 10K. Longer pieces, I might need more lead time to get it back to you in a reasonable amount of time. I love to beta, though, so all anybody ever has to do is ask. If I need familiarity with the fandom, ask me. I'm familiar with a fair number of fandoms, even though I only write BSG. If all you need is SPaG and maybe some input, I'm good to go. I'm nearly impossible to squick.

That sounds like a good goal. I have tons of things I've started that are lurking in my hard drive. One of these days, I need a good excuse to go through them.

I can't imagine having 40 things going. #crazy

But I do understand the feeling that I don't get thing done. It's much easier to start than to finish.

Crazy is the word for it.

It is definitely much easier to start than to finish. The start is all about being excited about the idea and getting that first rush of words down on paper. It's harder to stay excited indefinitely.

"Good gracious, woman! WHEN DO YOU SLEEP?"

Um. I don't. A lot. :/

Also, thank you. I like sharing. In certain circumstances. :D

Forty stories? WOW.
I don't even have that many ideas. *lol* Spreadsheets are awesome though. I LOVE them.
Good luck wih the stories you want to finish first!

Forty stories is only the ones I've actually started. I have a giant document, like forty or so pages, of prompts that might become ideas/stories at some point. I came late to fandom, and I think my muse is making up for lost time. lol

Love your organized approach. I am much the same in finding peace in my written schedules and prioritized goal lists! :D It's great to know exactly what you want to work on and I am finding a lot of joy in being able to switch between a couple of writing projects at any given time. Only having one thing to focus on has made me a little grumpy at times (at least until the muse kicks in hard and I can't focus on anything else but one story).

GO YOU!!

Thanks! Yes, having more than one thing is good for when that particular iteration of Kara wants to go sleep or something. I always have another Kara to write. I'm glad to narrow it down a little, though.

Way to go with the goals! I'm glad getting it all down so that you could keep track of it helped you.

Thank! It does help me to see it plainly spelled out exactly everything I've got in limbo.
