I am finishing up the final scenes of my mystery and going back for a final edit before I hit up cold readers. I evened talked to a couple of RL friends about reading which was very cool.

Endings are hard. So many little pieces and details to get in and get right. Luckily I get really good feed back from my first reader. ;) ;)

The good thing about working on the ending scenes again is that I'm not worried about what I'm going to write next so much.

WOOOOOOHOOOOO! YOU ARE SO CLOSE, KATE!! So happy for you. It feels super fun to read how the ending is all coming together. I also love your flexibility in figuring out all the details - things can happen so many ways, it makes total sense to keep the details fuzzy until right when you need them. These stories have such a life of their own.

NOVEL WRITER YOU! <3

I'm not always sure I love my flexibility. I can see all the different angles so I second guess a lot. But I can't figure out how to pin a story down before I'm really writing so this is what I got. *shrug*

I decided to push myself and signed up for NaNoWriMo. Not sure if I'll manage (as rl is a bitch) but I won't know for as long as won't try it. The thought to make a dent worth a 50k in a story is awesome.
Now I only have to decide on one of three possible stories and find a beta/reader who helps me not to venture too far of track as I'm prone to do.

That's great news! I have said many times that I wish NaNo was in the late Spring instead of November, which is just the worst time. Please let us know if you need any support or encouragement!

Indeed. Spring would be perfect. Somehow pre-Christmas stress always starts to hit me in November and work tends to be blah, too. BUT... no excuses. I'm scared shitless but willing to try.
And thank you! To know this group exists is extremely helpful.

So, I have been writing some fanfic. Not too much, but also dabbling in other fandoms, most recently Sons of Anarchy. It was very fun to write and I love my story (and the ship ( ... )

Awwwwwwwwwwww... yay for helpful feedback. I once had a real life writer beta the beginning of one of my stories. She ripped it apart, and it was pretty, pretty awesome.

Knowing where and when to flesh out is the hardest part of world building. I know that I have more back story when I read which makes it hard for me to give world building feedback sometimes. I also tend toward being a less is more reader in that I don't mind not knowing everything so long as I think the characters do.

Especially with your short story, I think getting the story out and then adding details, backstory is a good idea. It's so hard to know what's needed.

I'm so excited that you're excited to write!!! *squeeeee*

If I had a clear direction for the opening of the book, I think I could really set the world. The problem with Myra is that her world, of all of them, is the most relate-able with ours. I need that storyline...it carries so much importance in revealing the other worlds and it also connects the reader to a familiar-ish reality, but it's also hard to write it for those very reasons. It doesn't feel different enough for me. I need a twist or hook that I haven't thought of yet. Myra is missing something and I don't quite know what it is...

I have written frak-all for about a month now. I've done a bunch of nit-picking on smaller pieces, and gotten some really great feedback on things with which I personally wasn't satisfied, which felt really good.

So basically, I keep trying to write, and getting nowhere. Urgh.

Yeah, that happens. Near the end of novel or no, I'm spinning my wheels today, feeling incredibly futile and frustrated. You'll get there. :)

I hate the wait. I'm addicted to writing now, so when it doesn't happen, I get really cranky. lol

Oh, no. I'm sorry for the frustration. I hope something catches and inspires you soon.

It sounds like you're making good progress on your trilogy, even if you're dissatisfied with where you are.

:good vibes:

Congrats on your story!

Thanks!

I think I sound more dissatisfied than I am. Disillusioned maybe is more accurate? I'd hoped to get through it faster. That's just not my reality, and when I'm not comparing myself to other people (never a good idea anyways), I'm okay with that.
