Setting: Around the end of season one, but before Korra gets her bending back.
Summary: "You'll be okay, you know." Asami's words are simple, cliche even, but what do you say to someone who has just lost everything?

Asami, eventually, finds Korra in the snow. As she sits down next to her, Asami shivers, she still isn't used to the cold. She wonders if she ever will be.
Vaguely, Asami wonders what it must have been like for Korra, growing up here. Isolated, alone, without anyone her own age.
"You'll be okay, you know." Asami's words are simple, cliche even, but what do you say to someone who has just lost everything?
"No. I won't. I'm not the avatar anymore. Now I have nothing." Korra stares at the crisp, clean snow-covered ground. Her ponytail hangs limply.
"I can't bend. Are you saying that all non-benders are worthless?"
"Of course not, but-" Korra protests.
"Then, how can you think that of yourself? Besides, you can still air-bend. You have Tenzin. You've got Bolin and Mako."
"I know. But what about you?" Korra's voice is shy, concerned even. Which surprises Asami. She never thought Korra cared that much about her.
Asami puts her hand on Korra's shoulder.
"Korra, you'll always have me around. I promise." Asami hopes this is one promise she can keep.
Korra kisses her then. It's rushed, hasty and unplanned. Yet, despite the cold, Korra's lips are warm and soft on hers.
Korra suddenly seems to realise what she has just done and jumps back in shock, "I… I'm sorry… I-I."
Asami cuts her off, "Do you have any idea how long I've wanted you to do that?"
"But what about you and Mako?"
"I ended things with Mako. We weren't working out." Asami confesses.
"So, now you're available?" Korra says playfully.
"It seems so."
"Would you ever like to, I dunno, have dinner with me?"
"I'd love to." Asami smiles, a real smile, one that lights up her entire face.
Somehow, Korra knows their first kiss will not be their last.
