A real update

So I went to the Bridgeton Folk Festival yesterday with Kristin, Miles, and Ty, and had an absolutely splendid time. It was really hot out, but that was OK becuase there was a lake with cool water and interesting shells and tadpoles. I chased the tadpoles, stepped on the shells, cut my foot, and that was the end of the lake, what with the open wound and blood and all, but it was fun while it lasted.

Saw Daniela Cotton in concert for the first time in a year. I've always really liked her, but I think she's really improving, and I think she's just going to kind of explode onto the scene soon. WXPN already plays her entire album constantly, and I really love her because she's really different than most of the people they play on there, in so many ways. She takes a lot of her inspiration from Joplin, Hendrix, and various blues artists, which is just such a great mix. So yeah. Check out her album. It's awesome.

Also saw Ani Difranco. It was interesting to see her in such a small venue. She seems much more calm than she used to be, maybe because she actually took a break from touring for the first time in ages. She mentioned her right wrist bothering her and said we should never have left the trees. But I'm thinking maybe it wasn't as bad as she was making it out to be; I mean, carpal tunnel is fucking debilitating, and she's back to the same kind of rigorous tour schedule that she used to have. I'm thinking maybe she just needed a mental break from that kind of lifestyle, which is cool and everything; she did seem way happier yesterday than she did at the last two shows I saw.

She was talking about New Orleans (apparently she was in New Orleans during katrina) and about all the death and destruction, when suddenly a burger appeared on the stage. Earlier she had noticed a sign at the top of the audience that said "ANGUS BURGERS" and had mentioned how much she wanted a burger, so this guy (I think he works for her, but it was hard to tell) went up and got her one, and just put it on the stage in the middle of her story about New Orleans. She just kind of stopped and looked at it and said, "Hello little burger! I'm just going to let it sit there and steep." It was just so bizarre, and surreal. And the burger wasn't that little. It was pretty big actually.

Oh, I've missed outdoor concerts so much...the absurdity...

I need to do more of this this summer, becuase this is what I did for all of last summer and I was so happy...
