I have been bike riding more this week than I have since the summer and it feels AMAZING!! And Jamie and I just spent two hours fiddling with our bikes, under the pretense of "fixing" them. It was really fun, I think I understand how presta valves work now, and I can change a flat tire without a lever. It's funny, I feel like I got over a major mental block recently that was preventing me from thinking of my bike as something that I could fix and customize and control. I want to get a really good book that will eventually be dog eared and covered in bicycle grease to learn the stuff that's not so intuitive, but I feel so independant now that I can keep my bike in decent working order without taking it to a shop.
Last night I went to an amazing St. Patrick's Day celebration. I was surrounded by friends, delicious food, and good beer, much of it homemade. The next morning I woke up not hungover (as I definitely should have been) but really refreshed, calm, and just happy to be exactly where I was. We went out for breakfast, hopped on our bikes, and went on an adventure through South Hadley, Holyoke, Easthampton, and then came back to Noho. We found dinosaur tracks and put our fingertips in the freezing cold Connecticut river and had peanut butter bagles for lunch. I biked home, took a brief nap, went out for enfrijoladas with Jamie, and studied at my favorite cafe.
The thing is, I can't think of a single moment today when I wasn't completely, absolutely, one hundred percent happy, at peace, and in love with exactly where and when I was. It was pretty much a perfect day exactly. I feel like this year for me has been in many ways about finding my various homes- in regards to the work that I produce, what I "study," the kind of person I want to be, the people I associate with and the physical act of where I'm living. It's good to know that at least for today, I was completely there. Completely authentic, awake, present, and hugely in love with every second of the day.
