Week 3: Two Characters In a Room (An Exercise In POV)

May 13, 2011 13:39

Sorry about missing this week's discussion, guys!  I've been busy getting ready for a quick trip.  I'm posting this early on account of leaving for said trip.  I will try to get the critique list for week 2 out early tomorrow.  Remember, you've still got until before midnight to get week 2's assignment in!

Week 3: (POV)  I Saw You Across the Room and....

This week we will be delving into point of view (POV).  How effective your grasp on any given character often depends how adapt you are at getting into their head.  This week's exercise enables us to practice with two points of view within the same situation.

Assignment Breakdown:

1)  Pick two characters, one of whom does not like or at least has a hard time tolerating the other (i.e Kakashi + Gai, Sakura + Ino, Naruto + Sasuke, etc).

2)  Using Character 1, write a first person account of what they're thinking as they walk into the room and see Character 2.  Write about half a page (approximately 500 words).

3)  Now flip the point of view over to Character 2 and, still in first person, write what they're thinking as Character 1 walks into the room.  Write about half a page (approximately 500 words).

4)  What did you find easy about this exercise?  Difficult?  Why?  Tell us in your Reflection!

Submission Times:  Friday, May 13th  (12:00 a.m. EST) - Friday, May 20th  (11:59 p.m. EST)
Happy writing!
