Saturday References and Resources: Saturday References and Resources: The White List

Dec 12, 2005 10:17

So I found the White List just yesterday; it's "a list of writers, editors, and other publishing professionals that have LiveJournals or LJ RSS feeds."

smeddley and I were also just noticing that people were thinking prompts could be late-no such thing! The prompts are there for anyone to use at any time, no deadlines involved!

For whatever it's worth, I'd like to protest the banning of psycholicfallen (?). I wasn't around to witness the disturbance she might have caused, but I also think that banning someone's use of a pen is contrary to what writing and writers ought to stand for. I read through some of the linked post and have no response except to say that she has a right to her opinions.

I would hope that all of us have the maturity to simply ignore the obnoxious in life and try to change what should be changed. Question: Would Franz Kafka have banned her?

That post, made in the wee-em hours while I was studying for finals, was it and all to the matter. What it's actually about has nothing to do with our community (before this post, she had not participated in any manner whatsoever), but a protestation and expression of "suffering" at having her poetry not being accepted for posting at greatpoets, which is a community with the explicit stated purpose of posting work from published poets, and never your own work. (She's so incoherent about it that I figured this out only after a bit of sleuthing.)

She has a right to her opinions. What she does not have a right to do is to come into this community and post inflammatory statements about something that doesn't even really involve us without a how-de-do. We're a virtual workshop, not a clearinghouse for insults and preaching, and she shows no signs of being able to behave in a manner that would benefit the community. However, since I feel that technically she isn't a troll, I've made this concession that I might otherwise not, which is do as she ( ... )

I'm assuming the past couple days' critiques will be left to savor until next week?
