Exercise: [Week 1] "Getting to know the characters" // "20 truths"
Characters: Hinata Hyuuga. Sakura Haruno
Warnings: None
Reflections: I found myself struggle slightly with Hinata, mostly because we don't know much about her personal life or feelings apart from Naruto. Sakura isn't my favourite character but there parts of her I found enjoyable to write.

Hinata (Favorite)

1. Her name means sunny place. Looking in the mirror every morning, Hinata had always wondered why her mother had called her that. She wasn’t very sunny at all… Until she met Uzumaki Naruto - the loud, bright boy with a sunny grin.

2. Pressing flowers wasn’t just a hobby but a release from the days of bloodshed ninja’s lived, because a pressed flower, eternally fragile, would last forever unlike a human life.

3. Her confession wasn’t selfish; it wasn’t a demand for a response. It was the key turning in the lock, letting loose the too long caged bird known as love.

4. Her friends are under the strange assumption she has a water affinity, Hinata’s never bothered to find out. What was the point when she couldn’t use it until her system had fully developed? Hyuuga in the Main House almost always developed late, even Neji knew that.

5. Her Okaa-san was not a civilian Hyuuga but a well-known, respected Jounin. Hinata never told anyone, except Hanabi, that their mother had not died but went missing on an Anbu mission for the Hokage.

6. They say she’s too kind to hate anyone and, for the most part Hinata, agrees that she’s never hated someone. But Hinata can say she has resented a lot of people in her lifetime. Hinata resented her mother for leaving Hanabi without ever knowing the warmth she had been bestowed, she resented her father for denying any of the clan happiness because he wanted them to feel his pain and most of all, she resented Sakura for being so ignorant of the wonderful thing she had for so long and Naruto forgiving her for it so easily.

7. Hanabi was once a very kind, warm child but now she is as every bit as cold as she looks. Hinata has never loved her any less and still makes hot-chocolate and sneakily places it on her sister’s bedside table.

8. She could eat as much as Naruto and proved the day of the ramen-eating contest at Ichiraku’s. That was one of the rare days Hinata thought she wasn’t quite as invisible to him as she normally was.

9. Dreams were fickle things and often unaccomplished. She never said a word when Tsunade never offered her medical training like she did Sakura and Ino not because she no longer dreamed of being a medic but because making sure your friends didn’t feel left out was worth more to her than any dream. Hinata merely smiles when Tenten expressed her relief that Hinata wasn’t being offer tuition either.

10. Hinata knew there was a very real chance Naruto would never feel the same and chose to take the leap anyway. Love to her wasn’t about selfishness but about being content in knowing that person was happy.

Sakura (Least Favorite)

1. Her family might be civilians but that doesn’t mean their small nor unimportant. If it weren’t for their hard work she wouldn’t have been able to enter the academy.

2. It took her time to agree to become Tsunade’s apprentice in more things than just medicine. Sometimes she really regretted it after a gruelling session.

3. Only after she had confessed and gone to the battlefronts with her comrades did Sakura remember Hinata’s feelings and felt incredibly unworthy for betraying the kind woman in that way. You don’t confess to the boy you know you’re friend loves whole hearted unless you feel just as strongly. Sakura knows her feelings are nothing compared to the scope of Hinata’s love.

4. Sakura hated spicy foods after a meal of Wasabi left her sick for a whole week afterwards and had since then developed of a phobia of any food with even the slightest hint of spice.

5. More than anything Sakura wants a rematch against Ino, if only to have the satisfaction of the look on her friend’s face when faced with a Kunoichi and not a pathetic fan girl.

6. Studying medicine is hard, it involves books upon books and much theory that leaves her brain hurting but that’s alright because Sakura had always gotten along with dusty volumes of information

7. Naruto is infuriating. She’d be the first to have admitted that as a kid but Sakura knows it doesn’t make up for her answer of violence. It’s always a part of her she hasn’t liked and more often than not she would do anything to be rid of the urges, the nasty voice in the back of her mind.

8. Sasuke is the first person Sakura’s ever loved but he’s not the first boy she’s ever had a crush on. His name was Inuzuka Kiba and it had only lasted for five minutes before she decided he was a loudmouth.

9. Ino was her best best friend and a very important one but she’d like to think Hinata and Tenten were important to her too. Tenten always makes her want to work harder and Hinata will always be the one that she can cry on without judgement. Their good friends, the best and Sakura never lets herself forget it.

10. Team 7 is her home away from home but sometimes she hates them for treating her like such a - such a girl. She’s a kunoichi and Sakura loves reminding them about this fact when her fist lights green and the world crumbles at her feet.
