A Long Forgotten Kiss Epilogue

Aug 09, 2006 06:20

Well, this is it. The end of ALFK. It's been a long long ride since the ficlet that grew into this series was posted on Nov 03 in 2004.

Since then, a lot of people have helped me along the way as beta and idea-bouncing boards. Big thanks go to my original beta, adis723, who did a fantastic job on the early chapters but sadly had to step back due to RL troubles. Further thanks go to amejisuto and spikeswilngslav for input on the plot side through some difficult chapters in the middle of the story. I also need to thank aeb for an intense and helpful beta on chapters 17 through 19, and finally my dear Ev0l Twin, australian_imp, for whipping the last few chapters and epilogue into shape. *hugs all of you gratefully*

To everyone who has left feedback and asked for more, I thank you too, you've made me want to continue and finish tis story, even if it has taken a good 18 months!

Last, but by no means least, I want to thank kyrieane for setting up the challenge that inspired the original ficlet. You rock, hon!

But now, enough talk, on to the fic!

Title: A Long Forgotten Kiss
Author: akinaj
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Spike/Xander
Rating: this chapter 12+

Category: Future fic, angst, h/c, established relationship, first time, romance
Summary: After 50 years, Spike returns to Sunnydale and finds Xander in his parents' house
Spoilers: Future fic, set after an alternate S7
Warning: character deaths mentioned, but not the boys (this is set more than 50 years in the future, so it's kinda hard to avoid)

Feedback: Makes me write more and faster!
Concrit: by email, please
Feedback address: writan_bur @ livejournal.com

Disclaimer: Not mine, never will be. No harm, no foul, no money made.

Author's Note: This started as a ficlet written for kyrieane's Five Senses Challenge. After I wrote it, there were more questions open than answered, so I set out to discover what happened.

Beta'd by my beloved Ev0l Twin. I went and changed a few things afterwards, so all remaining mistakes are my fault, don't blame her!

Previous parts here.

Epilogue

"Are you sure you want to stay here?" Dawn asked for the millionth time, as she packed the last of their bags into the van.

"Yes, Dawn, don't worry so much!" Xander stood in the door and watched her, a big indulgent smile on his face. His hair had been cut and the beard tamed, but he had decided not to cut it off completely. So he wouldn't be recognised, he'd said.

The spell had worked perfectly, though Spike had to be restrained by his lover when they woke up. He wasn't entirely happy with Dawn for not mentioning the exact working of the spell, but soon enough Xander had calmed him down, and the matching scars did seem to have actually reinforced their bond, if that was possible.

In the kitchen, Spike was helping Willow to put away the last groceries. When Xander had first suggested using the house as a safe house for people the Watcher's Council needed to hide, Willow had looked at him with wide eyes.

But after long discussions, she had been convinced that it was the best way to take advantage of the still lingering protective energy, and a plan had been hatched. Together, they had strengthened the runes guarding the house, and soon, Spike and Xander would be on their own, helping victims to escape and hiding refugees that couldn't find help among regular folk.

Spike had been almost as sceptical as Willow when Xander first broached his idea, but the big smile and happy air of busy activity that surrounded his lover since he'd agreed was enough to convince him that it had been the right choice.

Oh, he was sure there would be problems, and fights and more drama than he could stand. But he had his lover, his bonded mate back.

And that was all that counted really, wasn't it?
