[He'd heard - and seen - via Sniper about people snapping out of being droned, but he's nonetheless very relieved that Olivier has proved to be one of those whose droning was only temporary. Some of it comes through in his voice.] I wonder...does one say "I am glad you are back" or "I am so sorry" in this situation? I doubt you are as happy to be back as we are to have you.

...I'm not sure how to feel about it.

It's been months.

...has it? [He sounds a bit bemused and skeptical; he'd probably be perfectly willing to accept that time passes differently between Mayfield and the worlds they've come from, but Olivier will need to present the idea to him first.]

For me, it has.

I was back at my post.

It must be a shock, suddenly being dragged back here... [beat] ...wait. I thought you were supposed to be dead back there?

...My countrymen had informed me otherwise shortly before this occurred. I was, in fact, alive and relatively intact. Several broken bones, but nothing the alchemists couldn't handle.

Good news, certainly. I wonder how much more formidable you will be now that you know you have something to go back to yourself?

The earth itself ought to tremble in fear.

[This gets a laugh from him, though it trails off perhaps a bit more quickly than usual; when he speaks again, his tone is rather more sober.] I was wondering what would happen to your efforts if you did not return.

I should hope one of you would take it up. The loss of one mind isn't the end of the effort.

Certainly not. But who? Debating who would follow after you might well cripple the effort itself, especially if there is contention on that point. And some, myself included, would probably be ill-suited for the task if it were left to them.
