Charles Bernstein wins this year's prestigious award for being depressing at Christmas. On his blog yesterday, he posted a link to the late Charles Reznikoff reading his poem Children. It might be noted that Bernstein's daughter Emma committed suicide on December 20, 2008, and he's Jewish.

Speaking of which, the recently-recovered stolen Auschwitz sign, which was made of 40kg iron and with scrap iron worth about 150 Euro/tonne, was worth about 6 Euros (£5) as scrap. Clearly only neo-nazis could be that dumb.

In more positive news, all my Amazon deliveries arrived, including Hammer's German Grammar. Now I have no excuse for not learning to read German this festive period.

EDIT: More depressingness.
