What is your October-before-NaNo usually like? What is your planning process?

I've seen quite a few stories around this year that concern angels. My own story is set in a dystopian-era Earth where fallen angels are killed on sight. (Or, in less discussed situations, taken into a massive underground slave trade ring.)
