For you, I drew Pigeon/Dove. Let’s start with the fact that pigeon and dove are two words for the same sort of bird…dove is usually applied to smaller (and often lighter-colored) varieties, while larger (and typically darker) varieties are considered pigeons. Pigeons typically get a bad reptutation as nuisance birds, scavengers and thieves, while doves are considered lovely and sweet and a popular symbol of peace. These birds have very strong wing muscles and are among the strongest fliers of all birds, and are highly maneuverable as well. These are also among the most adaptable of birds, having colonized virtually every environment on Earth, with the exceptions of the Arctic, Antarctic, and driest Sahara desert. These birds are also associated with water, being the only species that can suck water. These birds go back in the fossil record much as they are…there are few evidences of primitive/proto-pigeons. One of the most heartrending stories of extinction is that of the passenger pigeon. The pigeon/dove is truly THE bird, the bird’s bird, the foundation upon which the concept of bird may be built. It is the essence of bird-ness. It is also the bird-equivalent of human beings, which is never more clear than in our odd love/hate relationship, and the fact that virtually every human quality is, in one way or another, projected onto them. If I were to make a myth about human beings, I would say we were pigeons who had lost our wings. Perhaps the most powerful word associated with this bird is HOME, in as many ways as the word can be thought of and interpreted. These birds are the base from which other things come.

A good card for meditation/inspiration!
