SO not the happy start to the year *peeved face*

See, this here in the icon is my wee boy in his wee glasses. Darling, yes? Yes. He's farsighted and has strabismus, and what that means at the moment is that when he's not wearing his glasses, if he tries to focus on something close to him, one of his eyes crosses.

He had another eye appointment yesterday.

He needs surgery. Now, we pretty much knew this was a possibility as soon as we noticed the eye-crossing; his daddy had the same problem and he had laser surgery for it when he was a kid. And see, it's outpatient surgery now, he'll get general anasthesia but won't have to be admitted to the hospital. They'll do the thing, and then we'll keep him home for about five days and give him eye drops and he'll still need the glasses, but hopefully after the correction he'll be able to develop stereovision, which his daddy never did. (Or his grandmother, we just found out, isn't that a hoot? She hadn't realized.) And there are a number of other, practical matters involved, like money and time off work to take care of him, and I still want to travel some this year but this definitely means bailing on a couple trips but you know, priorities.

Outpatient procedure. Recuperating at home. Not a huge traumatic thing. And yet... hi, have you met me? I can hyperventilate over late airplane flights. They prefer to do it while he's on spring break so he won't have to miss school. This means I've got a good... oh... two months to work into full-blown panic. I'm trying to be reasonable about this, right? Semi-routine procedure OMG MY BABY no life-threatening illnesses involved CUTTING INTO HIS EYES we can totally handle this AIGH AIGH AIGH.

So, uhm. Consider this my blanket apology-in-advance.

Now that that's done, here: the Battle of Helm's Deep rendered in candy.
