I was never really an avid journalist, but I think it does help to get yourself organised if you write down some things.
It's also really funny to go back and read over old journal entries and wonder what the hell you were thinking.
Obviously Uni is at the top of my priority list at the minute, I've got a lot of investment in getting through the course and beyond, so it's something that I think I should write about. I've had some ups and downs in my course so far. Most recently from an assignment I thought I'd screwed up horribly, I spent a week stressing over the grade wondering if I'd get a resit, if it would spoil my overall grades or even cost me the course. About a week after the paper was done the lecturer in question was popping into our class to see a student and leaned over where I was working to say "Well done on that assessment".
My immediate thought was that he was taking the piss.
It seemed a bit out of character for Dave, not to mention a little cruel, so I asked if he was maybe getting me confused with someone else but apparently all the detail I'd been stressing about not putting in the paper he'd simply assumed I knew because I spoke about more complex issues and had some insight into a load of new tech that wasn't really designed for these applications but could have some (really major) impact in the way we design recording studios in future. The result 85%, the best grade in the class. Not bad for a closed book assessment.
I've got a few other papers due in in the next couple of weeks before we head off for xmas, but nothing I'm too worried about. Entrepreneurship sucks. It's supposed to teach us about setting up a business, but I for one don't really want to be going through the motions when there's not any real outcome from it. Most of us aren't really enjoying the class, but I guess its important to help us understand the ins and outs of running and setting up self employment and our own projects. It's still pretty shit though!
Away from Uni we've got music. Which is going about as well as it ever does.
Jeremiah are supposed to be getting on with recording a bunch of our material with a view to getting back together properly, but it's proving difficult to get the three of us in the same place at once, and even getting some basic work done requires two of us to be both in one place and in the mood to do it. As time goes by I begin to wonder if it will actually happen or if I'd be better just letting it drop.
My other current musical options are in similar holding patterns for the moment.
Inveiglei is a new project I've got involved with through Chris, with him playing lead, the singer Dave on rhythm guitar and me playing bass for a change. At the moment its largely speculative jamming around some of our singers songs retained from a previous band (he's kept the name and songs since he wrote them) so we'd be looking to get a bunch of material written fairly quickly, except that we all live in different cities, and I for one can't afford to be travelling back and forth for the sake of something that's not got much direction. Sadly it seems the other two are in much the same position, so we'll keep plugging away when we can and figure out a better plan as and when we feel it's worth more investement.
Open mic nights are giving me a bit of a chance to get back in front of crowds, which I love, but it's not the same as getting to play in a band (always better to play with others than sit and play with yourself) and my only real other potential comes in the form of some jamming Tami (a friend from JWC) and I have talked about, but again hasn't really happened yet.
I've got some projects to do as part of my course, so I really should get on with some recording for that, but without other musicians to bounce off of it can be tough going.
I did get myself a new amp though, which always cheers me up no end! It's an Orange microterror, a tiny (and I mean tiny) cute little noisemaker that's currently plugged into my oversized stack and it really puts out a hell of a racket when it's given some juice. I'll be getting a matching speaker for xmas from mum so it'll be nice and portable should I decide to take it to open mics or off to someone's house for a jam.
RP still happens on occasion. Perth has a vampire larp run by some ex cammies so I've decided to join some of the usual suspects there. I'm playing a venture musician and music industry rep. The idea was for a relatively care free character, but apparently that's not going to happen in this game! I'm enjoying it, but I'm not quite settled in yet, so we'll see how it goes.
Vampire tabletop is back on the go with Saul, Christian, Wren and co carrying on our Cam chronicle.
We restarted play from the giant black cloud engulfing the UK and we're about 3-4 years past that now in character. The guys have met one antidilluvian, eaten another (well, Giovanni) and attracted the attention of at least 2 more lately. They're not far off returning to Dundee after making a hasty exit a couple of years back when they were called out for being (mostly) diablerists, and I'm not sure how much of the domain's going to be standing when they leave again. Naturally as PC's they've developed at a rate beyond the NPC's, but I've got some IC reasons for that and I'm looking forward to the big reveals as to some of the characters background links to that reason. Also there's the infamous Saul Cooper plot to resolve (again) and I hope that Gav appreciates the route that I'm taking with that. It's a little abstract, but that's nothing too unusual for that character.
Anyway, it's late, that's a lot of text and I'm gonna go try to sleep
G'night
