People are spoiled now. For the last couple of weeks, we have not been able to get any strawberries and for the last week, we have not been able to get cilantro. The number of complaints is, frankly, appauling. We can't get strawberries because the crop failed and people have been asking why I can't just get them somewhere else. Arrgh!
This reminds me of the time that I had a customer ask- in December- why we couldn't get the good seedless cucumbers from Canada that she liked. It was snowing here in the southern USA and she wants fresh produce from Canada. Lady, here's your sign.
People seem to expect that they will be able to get whatever they want, whenever they want it. Here are the facts- fresh produce is seasonal and perishable. Once it's ripe, there is a very limited time for it to be shipped and sold before it's bad. Nothing is in season all the time and occasionally there will be times when the weather is not good and the crop is poor or fails altogether. Quit pouting like a two year old because something is not available.
And another thing- I have hardwood or vinyl floors all over this house now. There is no carpet anywhere. There is one rug beside my bed and a bath mat in the bathroom which is hung over the side of the tub when not in use. So where does the cat run to throw up this morning at 4am? My bedside rug.
And another thing- if I say I don't have time to do something, do not offer me money. Money does not add hours to the day no matter what the amount... although offering me less than I make at my job per hour is just laughable.
And another thing- I have a book in the mail. It's in Atlanta. It's been in Atlanta for four days. For heavens sake, go ahead and get it straped to the snail already! What- they're all balky and not catchable?
On the other hand, I am the luckiest b*tch I know. Last night, for no reason, I ran a search on ebay for the halloween plate that Emily broke and Replacments doesn't have. And there was one- moreover, there are four patterns in that plate- two I liked and two not so much, so we had two and two. Of the four patterns, the one that showed up for sale is the exact one that she broke. And it was a Buy It Now with free shipping for quite a reasonable price. Awesome!
