This has been a tiring week. You wouldn't think flower arranging would be strenuous but the week before Valentine's Day, it is. It's not that one vase of roses is so heavy- but a couple of hundred? That gets heavy.
On top of that, Bitsy has set her internal alarm to go off at 5am- or before. Two days this week I could have slept in and she woke me up right on time. This morning I suspect that she was woken up by Emily getting a drink (and the quilt off the back of the sofa). So I think it is going to be a good day for Emily to clean her room, wash her sheets and make the bed- especially since she did not bring her social studies book home to study for her test.
Also, a friend has had family problems which needed a little of my time. I'm not sorry to help- my friend would do the same for me if I needed it- but this was a bad week for it, timewise.
All this adds up to a very tired wren- and it's not over yet. I only have today off this weekend and don't have another day off until next Thursday.
In the realm of minor irritations, a book I ordered from the UK around Christmas has yet to appear- they asked me to wait until Monday and, if it hasn't shown up by then, they'll assume it lost in the mail and refund my money. That's annoying since I would much rather have the book. I've already had to get a refund from something else I ordered from Australia around the same time for the same reason. I want to go down to the customs office (where ever it is) and shake the people holding up my packages!!
As far as Valentine's Day is concerned, I'm not doing anything for anyone except Emily. She gets a small box of candy and I'm going to print out some Firefly valentines cards for her to give her friends at school. First off, it's in the middle of the work week; second, I'm not dating anyone so it's not as if I have a romance to celebrate.
Today I have to do some running around and then bake
banana bread for Emily to have a "healthy snack" for health class Monday. I was at a bit of a loss for what to send because the perimeters were so strict: no dairy, no nuts (not even peanut butter), no strawberries, no dip for veggies or fruit, nothing 'sweet', no meat. The reasons given were completely unreasonable- certain kids in the class are allergic to nuts and/or strawberries and/or dairy. Considering that the kids are only supposed to bring their own snack, I don't see how that would affect what Emily can bring! If they were bringing something for the whole class, I could see that. I guess I should be grateful that there isn't a kid in her class who's gluten intolerant too. After that, I plan to make
Roasted Vegetable-Rosemary Chicken Soup for dinner.
