On the subject of style copying from another artist: once or twice is flattering, any more after that it would be a courtesy to mention the original artist otherwise it starts becoming awkward for people who can see where the influence stemmed from.

I'll fully admit I'm generally rather sensitive when it comes to someone "lifting" my style. I see an artist's style as their calling card... sort of like their own unique signature. Styles are generally developed over years based on a whole myriad of other styles and outside influences, and over time they are twisted by said artist into something personal and very much "them". It's taken me well over a decade to refine my style into what it is now, and so I'm rather protective of it. I don't take well to people who just appear out of nowhere and decide, "Hey, I like this style, I think I'll take it and claim it as my own" and then start uploading stuff to their DA account or something. That's not cool, and it's disrespectful, and essentially riding the coattails of the original artists' hard work without nary a "thank you". And it's even doubly irritating when the copycat artist gets loads of praise and asspats for having "such a unique style!" and they'll "YUP I'M SO GLAD I CAME UP WITH IT." Really gets my goat.

(yes, it's happened to me A LOT so I get pissy XD)

But that's just my Grumpy Old Lady point of view :) I think in cases where it's an isolated incident where someone is trying to mimic a few different styles for the purposes of the piece... if it isn't outwardly obvious what they are doing, then it would be more courteous to cite their references and influences in the piece, and explain what they are doing. Credit where credit's due and all that!

Yeah, exactly! Gad, it's just as bad if not more so when you see it happen to someone else close to you. A little bit of credit really does go a long way.
