Summary: She turns and faces him, knowing the only thing keeping her in place was the wanting to see his face. He tells her "I love you" and suddenly a silent beat in Damon's dead heart begins to pump.
It's the moment Elena begins to walk out of her bathroom that she can feel his presence. The aura he has on her is so strong that she fights every bone to walk quickly towards him. She turns to see his face and the beat of her heart beings to pace a little faster. He's looking down as she turns to look at him, and secretely that's the only thing keep her in place. The wanting to see his face, the need to see his blue eyes were securing her to the floor. She's scared, but ultimately she's nervous of why the look in his eyes screams love and the words that tumble out of his mouth makes no sense.
She says she is tired but her body is screaming for more as he stands up and walks towards her. She's not scared of him, more with herself, so when she asks him to leave she instantly regrets the flash of pain that covers his face. It's when Damon gets so close to her that Elena can feel the taste of his lips that she begins to wonder what if.
Damon looks towards Elena and drowns the love he has for her. He needs to stay strong he tells himself, he needs to stay strong for her. The words "I love you" passes through his lips, while his mind is screaming "I'm sorry".
Damon remembers what Katherine did to him. Kathrine allowed him to pour every once of himself into her glass of malipumation and threw it away. He loved, he begged, and destroyed himself in the process of his life but died when he was reborn. They say becoming a vampire intensifies everything but the only thing that intesified Damon was loss. The loss of his life, the loss of his love, the loss of everything. So as Damon stands before Elena nearly screaming his profound love to her, he knows Elena will become an>other thing he will lose in his life.
