sunday_reveries quote prompt six

6. "Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars."  -- Kahlil Gibran

Scars, he has got plenty of them.

Every little silver thread could connect to create a map on his skin but he pays them no mind.  He tries not to think about where he got them all because then he would have to spend all day telling different stories.  They’re just shadows, just marks left upon him to remind him briefly of another time that he didn’t want to think about anymore.

He’s good at moving on, he’s great at pushing ahead but he won’t deny there are times when he looks at the scars to recall some kind of event to mind.  It happens on the days when he doesn’t want to remember but he knows he will.  It’s easier than looking at the blood on his hands after all.  Or at least that’s what he tells himself.

Scars are easier to ignore because he can cover them with clothes and then he doesn’t need to look but there are days when he does.  Days when he stands naked in front of his mirror and just remembers what is laid out before him.

It’s his way of looking back at where he came from and his way of reminding himself that he’s never going back.
