I got back from FC yesterday, and I'm quite proud of the fact that I was able to organize the whole trip on my own with minimal fuck up. Worst thing that happened was that, before departing from San Jose, I almost left my phone in cab number 131:
The person I was rooming with had called me while I was in the cab to the San Jose greyhound station so he could inform me that I had left my pull-over in the hotel room (I'll pay him however much it costs to mail it back, no big deal). However, when I hung up the phone, I placed it on the seat instead of my pocket in what can only be described as an acute onset of BLOND. Luckily, the bus was late, so when I reached for the phone to call mom and tell her I probably wouldn't be arriving at six and that she should feel free to sleep in, I discovered the absence of the device and, amid much cursing, promptly surmised what had happened. I called the taxi service via pay phone and they had it returned, saving me from disgrace at the last minute.
The con itself was wonderfun and I look forward to attending more. Miller made great company, and having him there, as well as meeting just all around great people like Jakebe, Toob, Nemo and others, made the con a wonderful experience. Also, fursuiters get a lot of shit, but all the ones I saw were quite awesome and nothing but benign. People who hate on these guys probably got molested in the bathroom of a Chuck e Cheese by the sweaty suited mascot guy or something. Oh! And Me and Miller went dancing, which for me was an entirely new experience. Maybe I should test the waters of the local club scene? Anything is possible in this Brave New World.
Didn't buy too much, didn't see a lot I wanted. Most of the money was spent on food. Geez, there has to be a way to budget edibles while traveling. I mean, I don't hate Denny's, but there's only so much indigestion I'm willing to take. Although the food at the hotel was surprisingly delicious, just fuckspensive.
The ride home was uneventful, and I did get there a bit late, but I don't care. After indulging in some of my freshly purchased wares, I conked out for a bit before having to go to political science class, where the moldy Reaganite bitched about the EPA and how its bureaucratic shenanigans sullies the system of checks and balances. I'm going to enjoy this class if only because it looks so ripe for contention. Also, he postponed the quiz till next class, which is lucky for me because I'm positive I would have done poorly. I better read up.
Hey, what the fuck is SoCal doing being cold? I am incensed by this indignancy. I wish I knew where the gloves Chem give me were, they would be really useful on the bike ride home. I guess I'll check to see if this cold trend will continue, and buy new gear accordingly.
I need to remember to check out the local bike shop for some saddle bags I can put on my ride so I'm not slowly fucking up my back as I haul all these heavy (and fucking expensive this year, jesus christ) books to and from LBCC. I should probably get a more comfortable seat cover too, as I remember reading that the constant gnashing of your taint into the bike seat can have some complicated repercussions in the nethers of aging cyclists. I also want to learn better the long beach transit system so that I can still make it around the area even though I lack a private diesel engine.
That's all I guess. I'm really looking forward to seeing Miller again sometime in the coming week, seeing as how he's still in the area. If it's possible, it would totally rock. Not having the urgency of the con to worry about would make leisurely hang-out time much more enjoyable. I'll check last.fm to see if there's anyone cool playing in the area, and we might end up going out to have a listen or something.
