enchanted
enchanted came out on DVD today and watching the animated parts has sparked somewhat of a gushing rant inside me that needs to be emptied immediately...
enchanted is a really good movie as a romantic comedy. but the parts that really get to me aren't the live-action ones. i vividly remember the day i first saw toy story, i thought it was amazing. and it was at the time a real technological acheivment. people loved it. it was THREE DEE. people have an odd fascination with 3D animation. one i've never truely understood. i always saw it as somewhat limiting. the most stylized i've ever seen in a 3D movie would probably be madagascar, i LOVE the character designs in it. horton hears a who is also a great example of purely well-done 3D modeling, and an all-around awesome movie (madagascar seemed to fall a bit short on the latter part...) one of my greatest loves for animation has always been character design and style.
back to enchanted. after such an incredibly long dry spell in the traditional animation world, and disney's elimination of the 2D studio (something i'm sure would NEVER happen if Walt were still around.... same goes for high school musical) I was blown away the moment I first laid eyes on enchanted. I was sitting in a theatre when the trailer played, and something in my heart reawakened. HOPE AT LAST.
I'de always dreamed of animating, but 3D killed that dream almost indefinitely... I honestly was lost. Rumors have been ciculating via wikipedia of more traditional animated disney movies coming up, and it's all got me SO excited. I look at enchanted's opening scene and I see so much talent and skill. The movement, colors, style, EVERYTHING is incredibly flawless. It sparks something in my heart that almost makes me cry just by watching it... I so wish I could be a part of this... But i feel that I'll never really be THAT good...
still.... if not anything else... I think my love for animation has grown as I've aged raher than shrunk. People claim anime is the way to go as far as animaion goes... But there IS other stuff out there, people. If you'de only look past what's "popular" and see what's right in front of you for what it truely is.
