I know a smile isn't 'fixed', but it's better than no smile, so yey =)

I took up digs I could ill afford with the smell of mildew and the most offensive wallpaper ever created, and spent my days walking along the Thames or along the crowded streets under the pretence of exercising my damaged leg. The truth of the matter was that I didn’t know what else to do.

I was, at this time, rather bemoaning the fact of my constant survival when men far better than me had perished. I found it hard to see any future for myself that ended well since there seemed no place for me in the world. If I hadn’t had the fortune to bump into old Stamford that day, things could have ended very differently.

“And the world would never have read about my brilliance!”

“Yes, Holmes.”

“Or your knowledge of three continents... OW!”

“You were warned!”

Those were very shiny - and very well written. I feel they should be wriggled in to a larger story or framed in some way and then posted somewhere for others to read.

The terrible two's scrapping is always brilliant, but the detail you've managed to fit in and the sense of place is extremely well done - and it definitely feels like it ought to be part of a larger piece and not just languish as a lone scribble.

I can never get my head around longer stories. I don't know why, they just won't get written.
