...The grapefruit is winning
Seems i keep getting this story
Twisted so
Where's Neil when you need him?
I was extremely mopey yesterday, but Ben started running a game for me that involves Cinnamon sailing round Titan in her pirate ship The Goblin with her crew of pearl-eyed skeletons and her friend, Defling, trying to thwart the plans of an evil vampire lord. I am slightly less mopey now =P
The Morrigan- Celtic
"The Great Queen". Celtic goddess of war
and death who could take the shape of a crow or
raven. Supreme warrior goddess. She is
associated with the sometimes frightening
aspects of female energy. She symbolizes the
power of fertility, the dark goddess' prowess,
death, war, fate.
What Deity Are You? brought to you by
Quizilla Hm. If I was an avatar of any goddess I think it would be Nephthys - she seems to be goddess of hidden, forgotten and contradictory/inbetween things. Plus she spends a lot of time mourning the stupidity of the world and although she's not generally violent there are some wonderful spells in the book of the dead to the tune of 'I am not here to do vengeace upon those I love who weep, I am to bring furious fire upon those who have trodden down the pure and made them to cry my name.'
I like =)
Now, we all know there are things called 'genres' and they're defined by rules. And if you're clever, you can bend or push the genre to let all sorts of new and interesting things in. But if you're not clever, you just end up with a mess.
I'm writing another faerytales. As a genre, faerytales are noted for their rigid and formulaic quality as well as rules which tend to break before they bend. You may have noticed in faerytales the distinct LACK of the following:
- Depression, self harm and suicidal tendencies in a protagonist.
- Metaphysical discussions about the nature of the soul and un-christian views to the tune of 'souls: you've got five of them'.
- The break up of a true-love relationship.
- The heroine having numerous adventures while the hero stays at home.
- The possibility of a protagonist engaging in polyamoury (of their own free will).
- A hero battling with demons (and losing).
- The pagan-ish view that while dEmons are bad dAEmons are quite cool and do your housework.
There are more, but those are the first few that come to mind. So. Out of all of those, can you guess how many I'm trying to fit into my faerytale? *Nods* Uh-huh, all and then some.
If I pull this off I've decided to crown myself Lord High Whatever of Writing Crispy Things in a Stealthy Way.
If.
Oh, and I did a new lj icon. It doesn't look like me, it was a pic of Serena Kyle by Chris Bachalo. But i spent two hours in photo shop making it look more like me and then cropping it to hell so you couldn't tell anyways. *sigh*
