Les Miserables. With Zombies. II

((There's sung dialogue at the front of this I haven't written. Whatever - it's late, I should be asleep.))

At the barricades Valjean is unshambly and doesn't kill Javert despite being given ample opportunity. Javert is brokeulate; as he stands about having serious angst issues, Wretches begin to gather...

Javert:
Who is this Wretch?
What sort of demon is he
To have me bound in a trap
And choose to let me go free?
I was caught up on the wire
Encircled by mesh
He’d have his desire
And feast long on my flesh

His mouth thus agape
His teeth they were keen
His chance at last to render me unclean!
Damned if I’ll live in the debt of a Wretch
Damned if I’ll yield at the end of the chase
I am the Will and the Word is still pure
I’ll spit his iconoclasty back in his face
There is nothing on earth that we share
It is either Valjean or Javert!

Is all my necromantic lore
Burnt down to ash within this light?
I thought the grimoire held the answers
The five folded star, the chains of Argent...

I should have perished by his maw
It was his right
It was my right to die as well.
Instead, I live… but live in hell.

My hex is rendered dust
Who is this Wretch who does not feed?
Can the star be unbranded?
Shall his soul be redeemed?

And must I now begin to doubt,
What I held sacred all these years?
My Will is stone and still it falters
The Words I have spoke are lost in silence
Is he a gris-corpse or a man?
And does he know
Saving me from Mal Mort today
He’s made me Wretched even so!
Now the milling maggots swarm
Looking forward to their feast
Crawling from the bloody mist
A rank army of deceased!
I once held myself as blessed
As righteous and as good -
Let me fall now to Mal Mort
Let my end be as it should...

He throws himself into the crowd of Wretches intending that they tear him apart - thus poetic justice is served.

((What he doesn't know is that if Corvid can make up the word 'iconoclasty' and squish it into a two syllable space then she's obviously a girl who can scorn poetic justice {poetic anything, frankly}. Therefore his chances of being slain by shambly Wretches are roughly nil and he'll be back singing stuff in the finale. More of which, later.))

burning toast, les miserables
