From time to time the question comes up "would you rather be too hot or too cold?". I believe that so far I've only heard the cold answer.
This is perfectly logical, from what I can tell. One can put more clothes on to heat up, or perhaps fiddle with the thermostat. It is much more difficult to get colder.
If you ask anyone whether they would rather be happy or sad, I'd expect the majority to *say* happy. But often I find that they'll willingly accept being sad, "so they can be happy later". I don't think one needs to be sad in the first place in order to become happy. I think being sad earlier is irrelevent to being happy now - it does not make a person more happy than they would have been otherwise. There's no "putting on layers" of happy until you're OK to get over being sad. But people generally accept "you have to be hurt before you can be happy".
