Sex, not Stargates, brings fans to SG-1/Atlantis Expo
What brings a worldwide audience from as far away as Australia, Germany, Brazil and England to a sci-fi convention? Fascination with high tech gadgetry, wormholes and aliens? No, not this time. It’s the hot guys.
An audience of predominantly middle aged women gathered the weekend of Nov. 6-8 at the Los Angeles Marriott at LAX for Creation Entertainment’s Official Stargate SG-1/Atlantis Convention for a chance to melt at the sight of the Beatles of Stargate - hotties Michael Shanks, Joe Flanigan, Ben Browder, and perhaps the Ringo of the group, Paul McGillion.

Joe looked good. Why am I even typing this? No, seriously, he looked fabulous. He'd shaved. He was wearing a black shirt and Nudie jeans (not the same pair he had on in Chicago -- those were looser and black). He was also wearing La Sportiva shoes and of course the sailor's rope bracelet.

Day 1 - He was so lovely, smiling lots and being very amiable. He saw the Tim Tams I was holding, and sang quietly under his breath “Tim Tams, king of the [some nonsense that rhymed, I can’t remember what it was]…”...it went on for a while, and was amusing at the time.

Day 2 - One question asked if he’d want to do ‘Stargate on Ice’, as Joe had said yesterday that David Hewlett wanted to do Stargate on Ice…Paul laughed and said he’d like to see 'Jason Momoa Out There on Ice', but that Jason possibly could skate…”Joe can skate, I think...”, he muses out loud, and is interrupted by Joe on the microphone at the back of the room, who had ducked around from where he was signing autographs- “hey, hey…Stargate on Ice is my idea, buddy…by the way, you’re our third choice, not Jason Momoa….”.

Friday - Jason came in and the whole room cheered. He looked a little sheepish! Something about him attracts attention, besides height and hotness. He’s really hyper, and he’s got one of these fun loving personalities that screams ‘look at me’.

Saturday - He interrupted me with a smile and said “Sure!” Next thing, he’s thrown his arms around me! I was standing there, mouth agape, in (very, very happy) shock! After a moment, the brain kicked in and told me to stop standing there and hug the man back, so I snuggled myself right in - heaven!!

Sunday 2/3- Paul is another person who seems to have an absolutely gorgeous nature, although he was tiring a little I think, as he looked a little weary. After all those lovely hugs he gave me yesterday, I thank him for the hugs, and told him I loved the photo. He said hugging wasn’t hard, and I have to agree.

Sunday 3/3 - He said, “Oh, where I was old?” I said, yes, but one scene in particular where he was prisoner, and he gave me a raised eyebrow puzzled look. I was trying not to lose the plot at getting a raised eyebrow look, so I quickly outlined the scenes where he was tied up in the chair and had the gag on the lower half of his face, and he looked just a little apprehensive, the poor dear.

Day 1 - Armageddon 2009. The line up was fantastic … well for me anyway. The original line up was supposed to have had Amanda Tapping in it (Lt. Col Samantha Carter on SG-1) I was looking forward to meeting her but about a month a go while I was at dinner at my friend Casey’s Mum’s for dinner I checked my email and found she had to back out of the event. Bummer. It wasn’t a bummer for long as I read further and found out who her replacement was. Non other than Joe Flanigan. I got insanely excited because for one? Joe is my favourite on Stargate Atlantis.

Day 2 - Joe was introduced and I couldn’t stop smiling as he walked on stage wearing a untucked shirt like the day before, a dark cotton jacket and then a white long jacket over that. * He was asked whether it was true that he worked for the White House. Joe was at pains to make it clear that he worked for George Bush Snr, not 'W'. He said he was 20, and when he would go to the police in a town to talk security for an upcoming visit, they wouldn't believe he worked for the White House because he was just a kid. He said they never gave him breaks to eat, so he'd order a Dominos Pizza (30 minutes or it's free), and the pizza guy would arrive an hour and a half later, traumatized after being searched by the Secret Service…

Day 2 - Got there in time for Paul McGillion's session this mane. Very entertaining. He shared the story of when he first got the role and how his parents reacted and how he dealt with medical terminology with a Scottish accent. He tried to teach a girl how to have a Scottish accent (she asked him to), but that didn't go so well. Very amusing all round.

Paul asked each of us where we were from and I told him where I was from and he asked where was that and I said 90 miles north of Sacramento and he asked if it was on I5 and I said no, but it was about 30 minutes from I5 and he said he remembers seeing the sign to my town! *g*

Jason Mamoa is incredibly hot, and it was so nice to see him smile and laugh so much. He seems to have some serious self esteem issues though; when he did his solo talk, for most of it, he seemed very shy and uncomfortable. CHICAGO 2009 - Michael Shanks
When Michael came out, we went wild. I mean he looks AMAZING in black! Michael seemed to like our reaction. He took some time posing for us, even turning 180° on request. Cameras were going off like crazy, and yes, there was some whistling going on! After giving us his customary greeting of “Hi! How’s everybody doing?” to which he got many happy shouts in reply, Michael said, “I’m just going to point it out now so that someone doesn’t later. I forgot to pack socks for this outfit.”

Went to the Walk of Fame and had Joe Flanigan sign his pic; his rate was very reasonable comparatively, only $25, and I felt I got a good hunk of quality time talking to him. He was very appreciative of the painting - and funny! He showed Paul McGillian and was all rubbing it in Paul's face - made my day!

Joe explained that he had a two bedroom hotel room paid for him while he was living in Vancouver. When Jason was looking for somewhere new to live, he asked Joe if he could stay a couple nights “until I can find a place.” But he never got around to moving out and so they lived in the same place for the last two years

* He was asked whether it was true that he worked for the White House. Joe was at pains to make it clear that he worked for George Bush Snr, not 'W'. He said he was 20, and when he would go to the police in a town to talk security for an upcoming visit, they wouldn't believe he worked for the White House because he was just a kid. He said they never gave him breaks to eat, so he'd order a Dominos Pizza (30 minutes or it's free), and the pizza guy would arrive an hour and a half later, traumatized after being searched by the Secret Service…

Day 2 - Got there in time for Paul McGillion's session this mane. Very entertaining. He shared the story of when he first got the role and how his parents reacted and how he dealt with medical terminology with a Scottish accent. He tried to teach a girl how to have a Scottish accent (she asked him to), but that didn't go so well. Very amusing all round.

Gary Jones and Paul McGillion were the guests at Breakfast. Gary talked about the act the night before. Paul asked each of us where we were from and I told him where I was from and he asked where was that and I said 90 miles north of Sacramento and he asked if it was on I5 and I said no, but it was about 30 minutes from I5 and he said he remembers seeing the sign to my town! *g*

A very delayed post about the Armageddon Expo
Jason Mamoa is incredibly hot, and it was so nice to see him smile and laugh so much. He seems to have some serious self esteem issues though; when he did his solo talk, for most of it, he seemed very shy and uncomfortable. CHICAGO 2009 - Michael Shanks
When Michael came out, we went wild. I mean he looks AMAZING in black! Michael seemed to like our reaction. He took some time posing for us, even turning 180° on request. Cameras were going off like crazy, and yes, there was some whistling going on! After giving us his customary greeting of “Hi! How’s everybody doing?” to which he got many happy shouts in reply, Michael said, “I’m just going to point it out now so that someone doesn’t later. I forgot to pack socks for this outfit.”

DRAGONCON 2009
Went to the Walk of Fame and had Joe Flanigan sign his pic; his rate was very reasonable comparatively, only $25, and I felt I got a good hunk of quality time talking to him. He was very appreciative of the painting - and funny! He showed Paul McGillian and was all rubbing it in Paul's face - made my day!

Joe explained that he had a two bedroom hotel room paid for him while he was living in Vancouver. When Jason was looking for somewhere new to live, he asked Joe if he could stay a couple nights “until I can find a place.” But he never got around to moving out and so they lived in the same place for the last two years
