Yeah, I think that the way Rose was written en show was a bit lacking, especially in anything beyond the first season. I always like to give her a boost in fanfiction, give her the benefit of the doubt. In my mind, she's still jolted by Sarah Jane, because that's living proof that she's not the first, but she was aware of it before.

Thanks for your wonderful comment! :)

Which was the point of this fic! :D I wanted to explore Rose as an understanding character, because I really don't think the writers spent enough time on the fact that Rose is supposed to be growing up. Nineteen is a time of figuring out that you've got responsibilities, and while Rose did run away from all of that, being with the Doctor is a learning experience. She should have been coming to the realization that she wasn't the center of the universe anyway. And Russell did a great job of making Rose the center of Doctor Who's plot for two seasons, but he failed to deliver on the essentials to having a young character that needs solid development.

I also think that Sarah's behavior was purely a response to Rose's. She got caught up in the "contest" for the Doctor's attention.

And your wanting for a Martha/Ten-esque moment is actually the idea that prompted this fic! So well done for spotting that! :D

See, I think that Amy's development is kind of implied. She's known the Doctor at pretty much all stages of her life. Childhood, rebellion as a teenager (she was nineteen for most of the Eleventh Hour), adulthood. The Doctor shaped her life and so their relationship feels very close because it is. I think there's a lot more that we don't see, and I kind of like that it can be assumed that there are things going on off-camera.

I do think that Rose was special in a way, but it really doesn't excuse the absolutely horrid writing she was subjected to. I think that she might be entitled to a certain amount of pride, but in a way she also has to know that she's not The Original Companion. The Doctor had a life before her, however much he might want to ignore that part of himself.
