Mark Miller raises my hopes and dashes them most expertly

"When I was at Comic-Con - what feels like months ago now - I attended and wrote about the panel for "Human Target," a show I liked last season but didn't love, and one where the raw materials - specifically, leading men Mark Valley, Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley, plus some of the best action scenes on TV - were strong but the mix as a whole ( Read more... )

I was neutral on the opening theme. Really, the HT score as a whole wasn't Bear's best work to me-- that honor belongs to Battlestar-- but there's absolutely no reason for them to mix in pop songs. Maybe that's Miller's style, but other shows in this genre have gotten on perfectly well with upbeat, fun scores and no crappy music to supplement it. Personally, I've always found using pop songs in movies/tv shows in place of a score to be the height of laziness.

That's the height of artistic thought and hard-working directing right there.

I wonder what songs they'll use in the montage sequences we'll now no doubt be subjected to. I'm guessing there'll be at least one where Isla and Chance are on the outs and they're sitting alone in their rooms looking forlornly at some object that reminds them of each other, while Guerrero sits in his car or apartment staring sadly out the window as he contemplates the guilt he will suddenly be feeling about all the terrible things he's done. And Winston will be doing something vague and unimportant, fitting given his new position on the team.

All set to the mournful tones of Sarah McLaughlin crooning "In the aaaaarrrms of the aaangel..."
