As webcomics go, xkcd (justifiably) gets a lot of attention for sheer nerdy goodness. It's hardly the only good nerd fodder out there, though- as a followup to yesterday's post,
indexed describes for us how the
7 new flavors of sin relate to the modern world (the link is a larger version of the image):
Keeping up with these things has also gotten much easier of late, as I've begun to play around more with RSS readers. They're a wonderful tool for automatically fetching updates to dozens of sites in one window- less so for a site like LJ (where some posts are hidden until you log in), but invaluable for blogs, news sites, and other amusement. I originally started with firefox, then the
Sage extension, but I've recently moved on to using
Google Reader, which for me has the advantage of being the same on any computer I use. (I switch machines a lot at work!)
It's a mixed blessing, really- I'm able to dramatically cut the effort it takes to traverse my normal circuit of interesting sites, but I find I've added a few more feeds to make up for saved time. (Or something) From electoral vote counts to discussions of current chemistry research, I'd still say the net effect on my work is pretty positive overall.
