Hi Everybody!
So to my fellow southern friends, Connecticut is a strange place. People are nice here, but very closed off, not as open and giving as people in the south. Drivers are better on city roads, but just as terrible on highways. The weather is pretty great so far. People go around talking about how hot and humid it has been the past couple of days. That means that it has been around a 94 high with about 40% humidity, not bad at all.
So the job is going well. It is nice to actually feel like I know what I'm doing some of the time. I've largely been doing research assignments, and lately have been spending a lot of time on the various states' legislative websites. There is a huge difference in the quality of some of the sites. I would say that New Jersey has the best search capabilities, and Oklahoma has the worst, in case you were wondering; and I know you all were. There are some exciting possibilities at the ECA, and I really hope some of them happen, even if I'm not here to see the results.
The people I'm staying with are nice. They are actually expat southerners from North Carolina, and attended Duke. It is kind of a strange situation though. It is kind of like if you were to stay at a friend's grandparents house without the friend.
I went into NYC two days last week. It is about an hour and a half trip via train. I love the train. I totally rode the train with
CBS's Scott Pelley on Wed. I wish everywhere had train-based mass transit. NYC is an odd place. I don't think I could ever live there. There is just way too much. As I posted on my Facebook status the other day, I think NYC is like the Machine in the Pit of Despair from the Princess Bride: I swear it sucks time away from your life. The conference festival I went to was strange. It was the Games for Change Festival, which had a bunch of academics and non-profits discussing how games are going to be a portal for social change. There was a lack of people that actually play games there, though. And while the academics and the game designers had a shared vocabulary, the non-profits were looking to be martyrs and fight against everything that has been known to work in video games. But that is a different post all together.
Next weekend my brother is getting married. It is odd, I always thought I'd get married first. It will be strange, but great. I'm the best man, so I'll have to give the toast/speech. I think I know what I'm going to say, but we'll see when the moment comes.
I'm really excited for 4E. If you don't know what that is, well, then how are you my friend? I'm having my comic shop send it up to me so I can start figuring out the new system. IF you are in Tally, and want to play, let me know. I'll be starting a game in August.
Alright, I'll catch y'all on the flip side.
