News and Notes - part 2 of 3ish

Arthur C. Clarke wrote that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Now, maybe it is because we are a part of such a wired generation, but I never fully bought into the meaning of that statement. My friends, I am sure that technology is much more advanced than what I have just witnessed, but this blew my mind. I got a new Brother laser printer that is network enabled. Now that we have the apartment somewhat set up, and as stated in the previous post, tonight I decided to set it up. So, I figure that this is going to be a bit of a headache, having tried to set one up before at the City. However, that time it was an HP, and was a major hassle. This time, I plugged the printer into the router, installed the network driver on my laptop, and the magic...I mean technology did the rest. It told me it was done, windows XP knew the printer was there, then I opened a word document and tested it. My laptop that had absolutely no wires connected to it was able somehow send that document to the printer and have it print. This, to me, is nothing short of magic. It blew my mind, and I cried out like a little girl at the glory that is networked wireless printing.
