A nice weekend...

I took Friday off work and drove Elin and the kids up to stay with Elin's best friend in Cumbria. They live in a gorgeous old cottage in the Lake District.
Anyway, we got there, got the kids to bed and sat down to dinner to the sound of helicopters. Elin's friend commented that this was unusual as they hadn't heard aircraft overhead for months. We thought no more of it until later in the evening when we turned on the national news and there'd been a pretty major train crash about 3 miles from the house!

Aside from that minor excitement it was a really lovely weekend just relaxing in the Lakes. We got back yesterday and having got the kids to bed, sat down for dinner and watched the first episode of Heroes.

It was pretty good. I wasn't jumping up and down in my chair shouting 'Let's watch another one!' but then I wouldn't expect to on just the first episode. I also understand that it starts off good and gets excellent. Anyway, we both approved and will be watching the others.
Hiro turned out to be every bit as likebale as everyone said he would be and will, I think provide some much needed comedy as the rest of the storylines look quite dark. I like the woman with the malevolent reflection and the artist who paints the future. I couldn't help feeling that it felt like a DC Vertigo comic or the 'Tomorrow People' if it were written by Alan Moore which (to clarify) is a very, VERY good thing!

I forgot to mention that last Wednesday we went to see 'Hot Fuzz' - the latest offering from the 'Spaced' and 'Shaun of the Dead' team. Highly recomended. Very very silly and very very funny throughout.
