Alex's POV

Love is a tricky business, isn’t it? The movies make it seem so…easy. Sure, there’s usually a struggle to get it, but in most movies the couple ends up together and blissfully happy. I’m just now learning that it isn’t like that. Not at all. I actually pity the fools who still believe it’s like it is in the movies. I know, you think I’m being cynical and bitter, right? Wrong. I am being truthful.
I mean, look at my parents. Yes, they ended up together and happy (how happy is a question you would have to ask them), but it came at a price. A price I couldn’t imagine paying. My father had to give up his magic to marry my mother. So yes, they are happy and in love and yes they have three beautiful children, but all of that cost my dad his supernatural gift. He says he doesn’t regret it though and I believe him.
If that isn’t enough proof for you, look at me. I am in love with my older brother and he with me. We are a couple in secret, but a couple none the less, and the mere fact is happiness inducing. The cross we bear, though, is very heavy and deeply haunting. If we were ever discovered, chances are our parents would separate us permanently. Just the mere thought of it causes me physical pain. So, yes, we are in love and happy, but we have this black cloud hanging over us. The cloud of doubt and worry constantly chanting that what we are doing is wrong.
Movies don’t describe the journey of love. Movies don’t even come close. The one thing I urge you to remember from all this is:
Love comes at a price.
