Crazy Weekend

Apr 06, 2010 08:56

I had a very busy weekend.

Friday:
* My mom took the kids (she was visiting last week) and told me that I wasn't allowed to come home until after 9pm.  I went down to the river to take some pictures and almost fell in, managed to get sand in my camera and now it's not working right.  I'm still hopeful that I can fix it but that hope is quickly fading.
* After I pulled myself out of the muck, I went to the store and bought a much needed pair of blue jeans, now I have 2 pairs!
* I then headed up to the suburbs, surprised Joe at work and we had dinner together.
* After that he headed home (he had to work on Saturday) and I headed over to Barns and Noble to kill a few hours while a friend of mine finished up her shift at work.
* Me, my friend, and a few of her co-workers went out to a Mexican place for nachos and margaritas.  I made it home somewhere around 1:30 am.

Saturday:
* Slept in until 9am.
* Got up started eating some breakfast and Joe came home.  Turns out they had an extra at work that day so he did some computer training and then headed home.
* Mom and the girls went to take advantage of Goodwill's 1/2 price day and get both kids some summer clothes.
* I went to pick up my photo prints.  I was going to head straight home then I thought about it and realized that there would be no way I would be able to put my portfolio together while watching the girls and socializing with my mom so I headed to the bakery at the end of the strip mall to grab a coffee and put my stuff together.  I guess I picked the right table to work at.  Next to me was a man and his wife.  Turns out they run a marriage counciling business and he was very interested in my picture with the ring/heart shadow for their website.  We swapped information and he told me that if I do any other wedding or marriage themed work to contact him and he would look over it.
I was nearly in tears (happy ones) as I left, maybe this whole photography thing will work out for me after all!
* Joe took the Girls when I got home and Mom and I headed off to Lowe's to grab a few things for our Big Project
* We got home, Joe headed to the Library to get some studying in and Mom and I started removing the last shreds of wall-paper from the kitchen walls, it was time to tile!
* White subway-tiles (3"x6") went up for a back splash from the top of the counter to the bottom of the cabinets.  Mom did the actual tileing and I was on saw-duty.  This was the Big Project and it took the rest of the afternoon.  We started peeling wall paper around 2pm and we broke for dinner around 6pm and everything was finished before 8.  It took longer to get the wall paper off than it did to get the tiles up.

Sunday:
* 8:30 Church service
* 9:30 Brunch
* Went back home, napped off a little bit of Breakfast Casserole and then started grouting.  Apparently there's a knack to using the float and getting the grout in the cracks the right way.  I do not have this knack.  Mom does.  So Mom did the grouting and I did the wiping it all up with a big sponge.  We let the grout sit and then had some real fun hooking back up all the light switches and electric plugs.  Actually, it wasn't hooking them back up, it was replacing them.  The original plugs/switches were that generic beige/tan plug color, this looked not so good against our new white tile so we swapped them all out for white ones.  The light switches and the regular plugs went in no problem.  The GFCI outlets however... They were a different story.  There are two of them, one on each side of the sink, and it was after 9pm before Joe got one of them working.  The other we couldn't get working that night at all though it did start to work on Monday night.  If I can get my camera going I'll post before and after pictures of my kitchen work-in-progress.

Monday:
I would have gotten all this wrote down yesterday except it was crazy at work.  I actually had so much to do that there were 3 things held over until today.  That is odd, or at least it is when you take into account the past month or so.  Guess we're getting out of that 1st quarter slow period.

Today:
Work has slowed down a bit, hopefully I can find some useful information online about fixing my camera (or my dreams of being a photographer might come to a quick and sandy end) and when I get home it's Laundry night, Biggest Looser, and sealing the grout.
Oh, and somewhere in there I need to figure out what we're eating for dinner.
