Of stuff and things

Visited with Alta's teacher this week. She said that after going over Alta's test results with the school psychiatrist the special needs monitoring is being stopped. The teacher, me, and Joe believe that she is dyslexic but at her age none of the standard dyslexia tests can be given, she's just too young. And her tests (standardized placement tests) show she's way above the average in math and right on average for reading.

Her results are the triangles.

In math she's way above. We've already started doing 2nd grade math homework here at the house. It may take her a while to do the first set of problems, but once she grasps the concept being taught she flies through the rest.

Reading she is right on average. She obviously struggles with the words but she has good general comprehension of what she's reading which puts her with everyone else.

So since she's not behind, is showing progress, and since she's not able to be tested yet, everything is on hold. This time next year, if she's still struggling with dyslexia symptoms, we can take her to the dyslexic center for testing. It's a bummer, but there you have it.

This summer we will be doing the reading program through the public library and I will be attempting to "sneak" reading into her with math and science worksheets from education.com. She really enjoys those two topics. You can bet that both Joe and I will encourage math and science studies, that seems to be the future of the American workforce.

Joe did not get either of the two jobs he interviewed for at our local hospital. It was a hard hit, he was really hoping to get out of the current company and get hospital experience. He's applied to another hospital north of here, hopefully he will hear back from them next week sometime. He is still set to start working at the new center on June 10th, so we're not unemployed, just disapointed.

We're going to try to get out to see Ironman 3 sometime this week. Hopefully our regular babysitter will be avalible during the day sometime because we are cheap and not above watching a matenee showing.

Friday was the sorta last day of school. For whatever stupid reason, Alta has to go back to school -in uniform- on Wednesday for nothing more than to pickup her report card. Someone told me it was to save money on postage, but they're running the busses to do this. I find it hard to beleive that they're saveing money running school busses over the whole county over a bulk postage rate. Or, better yet, send the darn things home with the kids on the last day. Our teacher had hers all laid out on her desk, filled out and ready to go, when we talked on Wednesday.

This evening I'm going to an adult toy party at a friend's house. I tried to get another friend (the one I didn't think would be horrified at my asking) to go but she had to be at a wedding. Our conversation drifted at one point, she said it would be awkward if the presenter were a 68 year old grandma. I countered that it would be awesome if it was Dr. Ruth though, to which she about choked while laughing recovering enough to say that would be the greatest toy party ever. To which I agreed.
