A Night Out

My friend Glenda (glenalucard though she hasn't been on LJ in forever) got married yesterday.  I had a few personal reservations but I know her cousins and they told me they had already approached her about the same concerns, so I kept my mouth shut (for once) and gave her a nice place to hang out a couple times in the madness that was her wedding planning period.

Joe and I got our local highschooler to come and watch the kids for us.  We left home at 4pm and saw 2 car wrecks on the 35 mile drive to the wedding.  Holy crap!

Oh!  I finished my dress yesterday morning, with about 3 hours to spare! Woo! Procrastination for the win!  Here it is laying on the bed before I got dressed.

So we made it to the wedding.  We didn't know anyone there... well, not quite true.  Obviously I know Glenda.  And I met Russell (the groom) once before.  And I knew Glenda's cousins and one friend from the bacholorette party.  But yea, pretty much a bunch of strangers.  There was enough room though that I could have some space so my social anxiety didn't go all crazy, so that was good.

Anywho, it was a great setup, in an old Antebellum house and naturally Glenda was stunning.  Her dress was BEAUTIFUL, a huge long train for the ceremony and then it came off for the dancing.  Lots of silver and crystal beading on the bodice and skirt.  It was what I wanted for my wedding, but those dresses cost at least $1500 (well, 8 years ago that's what they were, no idea what it is now) and we had a $5000 budget for wedding so I got a plain $600 dress instead.  Anywho, wedding pics!

I didn't get too many, actually.  All I had was my phone, and we managed to sit about 2 rows behind the tallest guy there.  This is probably my favorite though, saying the prayer after all was said and done, but before the kiss (WHICH I MISSED! ARGH!) So sweet!  Awwwww!

We stayed for about 4 hours, the wedding and reception were at the same place.  There was a brief thunderstorm that forced everyone inside, the food was good, the dancing was sorta lame, but all in all it was a good time.  Joe and I had a great time sitting next to Glenda's Uncle Terry.  She had told me about him, though I hadn't met him before, he had a terrible fever when he was a young child and is mentally retarded because of it.  He is 50 some years old, but mentally is his only about 8 or 9.  He was a lot of fun.  He was out on the dance floor for pretty much every song, having a blast.  At one point he sat down at the table and said how it was all going to be different now, with Glenda all grown up and living with her husband.  He was a little teary when he said it, so sweet.  :)

I got a picture of me and Joe (and you can see the dress!) while we were there. I got a lot of complements on my dress. I gave Joe a little bit of a hard time because he doesn't really like it, "too old fashioned," but about 6 complements in one night from strangers is enough affirmation that I looked good in it. I decided that we need to take dancing lessons next year (maybe over the summer) so we can go dance at things like this and not feel like the uncoordinated white people that we are.  Joe agreed so I'll work on that once school is done.  :)

We only had a 4 hour parking spot so a little before 9 we headed out, but I did get a picture with Glenda really quick. We both look a little crazed, but eh *shrug* they can't all be winners. And you can see the beading on her dress. /dressenvy

After the wedding we headed out to the local Irish Pub for some beer and music. There were two guys, one on a fiddle and the other with irish bagpipes, they were good. I had a mocha stout beer first and it was disapointing. Somehow it tasted like a "lite" stout, which seems like it would be impossible, but there ya go. For my second beer Joe pointed out a sign on the wall for a desert drink, graham cracker crumb rim, ice cream, and a pumpkin porter. Yep, a real beer float. It was made of awesome and totally made up for the less than stellar stout.

Across the street from the pub is the old Franklin Theatre. There was a huge movement to "save the theatre" and they managed to get enough funds raised to do just that. They had a marque going above the doors with the current and coming attractions. The big one right now is apparently the Zinghoppers, one of those creepy character bands beloved by children everywhere. I had to laugh when on one half of the marque they were advertising the Zinghoppers and on the other side was "The Best of Led Zepplin." It struck me as funny, I tried to take a picture but the focus wasn't working through the window and I just didn't care enough to go outside to take the picture.

We got home around 11:30 and I had to ice my ankle again, I'm about ready for this thing to heal up. Ugh. Oh well. At one point Joe and I tried to figure out when the last time we went out was. OR more specifically, when was the last time we got a babysitter to go out at night. Neither of us could remember, which means we probably haven't been out since June when mom kept the kids while we were in Washington for Jon's wedding. How sad is that? I need to talk to that lady at church again about doing a babysitting exchange, now that we have a little more income we can afford to go out, but not always go out AND pay for a sitter. So if we could work it out with Rachel and Sam to trade off for a date night once a month that would be awesome.
