no both of the gms said that there was no name at all on the server active or inactive. and even if someone was inactive or it were a level one , I would still be able to add it to my friends list

ive tried both factions, and it said player not found. if you try to add someone of the opposing faction it says friends must be part of your alliance .
Its really confusing me!!!

Tyrion icon ftw.

My guess is that the name is reserved for some reason or another, maybe even due to an unlucky coincidence of timing where someone has had the name, then changed it to something else, which blocks use of that name for a certain time afterwards.

If it is in reserve due to a server/faction change, the name should automatically get freed up after the allotted time, no GM involvement needed. Just keep trying to make a character with that name every so often. :)

Does the name have special characters? Have you tried creating it on servers other than yours? Have you asked a GM why it wouldn't work (since there's no active or inactive character) or what you would have to do to petition it? I'm not sure if a level one that was never logged in to will show up on a friends list (someone just created it to save the name and never logged in), but I know it doesn't show up on the armory (I just checked the name I have saved for my pandaren monk).

no special characters. Ive tried to make it on other servers and have been able to. ( I just am afraid to start out alone on a new server) The Gm i was talking to today said he didnt know why it couldnt be made. But he definately said that there is no inactive or active toons with that name.
I could make it with special characters but I just dont like using them. Now im just curious as to why it cant be made on one server but can on another

If you're on US realms you won't be able to make it with special characters. They changed this a few months ago. Names already with special characters are untouched.

I just tested with my pandaren saved names (I created the characters, never logged in)... you can /friend them.

As I understand it naming rules on RP realms are stricter than on regular PVE realms, if you're trying to make it on an RP realm that might explain it.

If it's a fairly common name, it could be that someone on the server had it and then transferred off, incurring the 90 day name restriction. That would explain why when you try to /friend this, you get a "Player does not exist" error.

Perhaps create another petition asking the situation surrounding the name? Ask specifically if it's a name that is under the 90-day-lock from transferring off a server, and also ask if you can have a date at which the name would be released.
