Noob days: the magical moments?

These types of posts do tend to chain each other :) In response to toasterdog's latest post about noob moments in WoW, one of the comments on that post got me thinking.

Sure the noob moments are embarrassing in retrospect, and knowing so little about the game and doing things so wrong can often lead to pain and frustration. But there were magical moments to being new to the game, as well. It is good to be good at the game and know the best/most efficient way to do everything, but that also means that you lose a lot of the journey. Nowadays the scenery just flows by me; the mobs are just dispensers of XP or loot; the quests are just a straight line from quest hub to quest area, a few mechanical whacks with the weapon/spell of choice and then back again.

I remember when I was first leveling my little warrior, everything about the game was so fresh and magical. Looking at the snowy world of Dun Morogh and seeing her breath freeze in the air, I almost shivered with cold. I paid attention to all the plants and little animals everywhere I went, I was zoomed in close so I saw it all. I felt real triumph when I bested a beast in a fight, I got caught up in the little battle yells and I got to know her voice so well. Sure there were awkward/embarassing moments, like getting lost on the way from Kharanos to Ironforge (how can you even do that? follow the road north!) and being terrified of yellow mobs. But I also remember how overwhelmed with gratitude I was when someone gave me 2 gold for repairs and training. That was more money than I'd ever seen before!

And I remember the wonderful moment when I was leaving Dun Morogh for the first time, and I came out of the tunnels into Loch Modan and the scenery changed. Suddenly instead of snow and ice, there was warm greenery all around me. It was like going from winter suddenly into spring! It was magical.

Anyone else wanna share the fun, magical moments of their noob days?
