Crafty question

I changed my 84 dranei pally's crafting prof from engineering to jewelcrafting and I was wondering if it's worth putting the time into the Dalaran dailies for the tokens to get the recipes? Or should I focus on getting her JC level up so she can do the Cata gem dailies? Or do both?

The Dalaran gems (both epic and the more affordable blues; I've even made decent money buying uncommon Bloodstones when they're cheap, cutting them, and selling them) sell reasonably well; they're more of a niche market, but you also have less competition. I'd pick up the big three red cuts-- str, int, and agi-- as well as the stamina cut for tanks. 70 PvP twinks might also buy the resilience and/or spell pen cuts, which I -think- you buy with honor from a Wintergrasp vendor... I could be wrong.

The Cata gems sell extremely quickly-- especially after the patch drops, if you can manage to pick up a few of the most popular cuts before then. However, there will also be a lot more competition, so your profit margin per gem will likely be smaller. Also, there will be epic gems in 4.3, as drops from raid bosses. (Everyone in the raid gets a geode with a chance of spawning one of the six epic gems.) You can learn to cut these epic gems, but it's unknown how many will be appearing for sale, and how much you may be able to earn by cutting them.... I'm planning on picking up the big epic cuts, holding some tokens in reserve, and watching the market, but I'm on an RP server with few raid guilds. I doubt I'll see much in the way of epics in circulation.
