Inner Fire or Inner Will?

Hi ladies, I just had a quick question about priests. I have a baby holy/shadow priest that just dinged 83, and I'm not sure if I should be using Inner Fire or Inner Will at this point. So, for shadow and holy, which is best? I did a quick search and couldn't find the answer, so I figured I'd just ask here, since y'all seem to be a neverending ( Read more... )

priest: holy, priest: general, priest: shadow

All my priest buddies told me inner will was more of a pvp thing - I was confused when I leveled up my li'l priest too!

I hadn't thought of using it as a stance dance kind of thing for certain mechanics, but I think unless there's a particular reason, you generally stay with fire.

No, no, no, Inner Will actually gives you more bang for your buck if you're discipline. PW:S is pricey and it's hard to beat a 15% mana cost reduction - that adds up to a lot of mana you can use for more heals. Any disc priest worth their salt recommends sitting in Inner Will over Inner Fire. (Edit: To clarify, the mana cost reduction provided by Inner Will not only allows you more mana for other heals but lets you reforge out of spirit into throughput stats like haste or mastery. The 500 static spell power is nice, but I don't think it matches up to the benefits you get from using Inner Will.)

For shadow, though, yes Inner Fire is the way to go. I think for holy it's more situational and depends on your mana comfort and playstyle.

Hmm yes, but if you have no real mana issues surely sitting in Inner Fire squeezes out that lil bit more healing? At 85 with Rapture if you use Shields at the right time on the right person you either get back whatever mana you spent on the shield, or even more (depending on how much mana you have ofc), so the cost of the PW:S isn't that bad at all, or even noticeable.

This is true, but there are many instances where some pre-shielding (particularly for 10 mans) of other raid members besides the tank is fantastically helpful. In that case, you're casting PW:S much more often than every 12 seconds. Also in heavy AoE situations, one of our highest-throughput "rotations" is weaving PW:S with PoH (after popping Power Infusion) to make use of Borrowed time.

I can see plopping one's self in Inner Fire for 5 mans, when there isn't much damage except on the tank and you're only using PW:S to refresh it on the tank or as an occasional time-saver, but not for high-end raiding.

That said, the OP was asking about holy and shadow, which as I mentioned has a different perspective on the two auras. ^^

Yea I only raids normals, not HCs and of course the cost of certain abilities would become much more of an issue. Maybe as I am not experiencing any mana issues (worked out when to use CDs on rag to be fine the entire fight) I don't see Inner Will as a major plus, but will look abit more into it if we go any further :p

And I use Inner Fire for Shadow, never played Holy but can only imagine as someone else mentioned using Inner Will for renew spam.
