What I Did On My Firelands Vacation

After all that time hard at work in the Molten Front, seizing adventurers with her talons to save them from fiery doom, Tiaris Ravensong needed a vacation. Somewhere far, far away from fire. Somewhere cold. And desolate. How about the Storm Peaks? Well, why not. She did want to show her little Guardian Cub where he came from, after all. And the skies were gorgeous, and the winds off the storms and mountainsides made for some amazing flying experiences (and several near-misses into sheer cliffs, but that was little different from the Molten Front, and at least she wasn't reeking of brimstone at the same time).

Though she discovered that Storm Peaks wasn't exactly desolate. Here and there, she found people perched on cliffs and ledges, steadfastly glaring at her when she swooped by. Alarmed at this behavior, she started up a conversation with a human warlock who let her in on what everyone was so excited about. A near-mythical creature, one Tiaris had heard of but had dismissed as feverish imaginings of the overly optimistic. But it was said to lurk these peaks! Truthfully, it did!

So Tiaris decided she might as well enjoy the cold barren mountains by keeping her eyes out for this mysterious creature. Clinging to a tiny ledge above a frozen waterfall, her time was marked only by the passage of clouds laced with lightning and glittering patches of sky and stars. The only events of remark were when a rude blood elf atop a windrider forced her off her ledge with profanities, and another time when a large blue dragon attempted to eat her face.

By now the cold had seeped into her. It didn't seem to bother the cub or the Winged Guardian at all, but these were climes they were accustomed to. She was starting to miss the seething heat of the Firelands, the sulfur-laden smoke and eye-stinging fumes, the complaining adventurers who claimed she needed to expand her patrol routes--as if she wasn't already overworked!--and the times when she was actually warm.

And then, in the blink of an eye, she was startled into cat form by a mighty roar, on her paws defensively as the sky was blotted out by a vast mustard-golden form...

In a panic, she attempted to leap onto the beast and rip into it, but her paws slipped on the icy rock, and she found herself plummeting off the cliff. With a mad cry, the monstrosity was after her, leaving her unable to shift into her feathers. She wished she'd taken that dwarf up on that offer of that light lager he had in stock at Frosthold! But her feline instincts kicked in and she seized the rock before falling to her doom. Battered by her fall, she had just enough time to turn to face the creature as it opened its cyan maw with a battle cry. Her own savage roar shattered the air as her claws met scale.

And then...it was over. Her victory was won. The beast had been mastered.

And that's what Tiaris did on her Firelands vacation.

(Sorry for the disorienting tilt, but I really did fall off the cliff and I really did nearly die as he followed me down! I've half-heartedly camped before, but this was this was the first time I really marathoned it. Twelve hours yesterday with only a Vyra sighting, and then today, victory. I wish the very best to the Alliance-side WrA campers I chatted with--I've whispered or mailed those of you I knew with the time of the spawn. To the Horde-side campers who did not stack or /rude me off my spot, I also wish you the best of luck. The TLPD really does exist!)
